Choosing a Piercing
STEP 1: Deciding on the Piercing for
Rings are better for ears and for most body piercings
Different body types require different types of body jewelry, with different sizes and thickness. Jewelry which is too thick can cause keloid or abscess.
Jewelry should be made of
LVM surgical stainless steel
18-karat solid gold
Gold-filled, gold-plated or sterling silver are not suitable. They can chip, tarnish or degrade in a piercing.
If your skin is sensitive to metal,
may be used.
Longer barbells are used for tongue piercings to allow for swelling. They can be replaced later.
Don't use jewelry with nicks, scratches, or irregular surfaces
