this is gonna be my first tattoo...i goto school in elon, NC.....i was wondering where any nearby tattoo shops were that were known for realistic tattoos.....
I'd like to get this tattooed on my back
with some of my favorite song lyrics of all time:
"Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand"
symbolizes that whatever comes my way i can deal with it and get over it....the good and the bad.....just living life , lovin every minute....you only get one!
I'm not sure how i want the lyrics to be written.....i figured i'd talk to the artist about that....i live in NY, but i goto school in NC....so I'm thinkin ill get it in NC......i realize price shouldnt be an issue becuase you cant get a good tattoo cheap and cheap tattoos arent good.... I'm thinkin maybe I'd get jimi on my bottom right back kidney area, and maybe the lyrics on the bottom left kidney area.....
I appreciate you guys takin the time help out the noobie.....
OH and one more question.....I do occasionally get acne on my back (bacne....) will this fuck up my tattoo?
does anyone know anybody in NC that can get that done?
Thanks guys

this is gonna be on me for life....i've seen some horrible tattoos on the net....not tryin to have that hahaha
i saw under the list of best in tattooing (the sticky) theres someone in ashville, nc....which is probably like 4 hours from me.... so i was wondering if theres anyone closer / if anyones had experience with that guy (Darrin White - Asheville, NC )

my guess is, if he's on the list of good artists to go to here, that someone has either seen his shop, his work or has been ink'd by him.. to have made the list would say something about his skills, i say.. go check the shop out!. have you read the stickies here? there's some pretty good advice on how to pick an artist/shop from some pretty knowledgeable people here.. i'm from canada, so i couldn't reccomg anybody to you, but legwork pays off, my friend _________________

would you be able to get work done where you live? lots of good artists in NYC. also expect to pay about 150-200/hr for excellent artists. we are not going to know about general pricing unless we know how big the piece will be. _________________

2) if i have some acne in the area im trying to get a tattoo....is that bad news?
also sizewise, im thinkin from my waistline to halfway up my back on the right side probably for jimi and on the other side the lyrics possibly......but maybe all incorporated into one....figured id ask the artist.... so im wonderin what hte pricing would be?

when it comes to tattoos and good artists, you normally get what you pay for- simply put, cheap tattoos are not good, good tattoos are not cheap. your bitching about money without knowing a fucking thing about what your getting into..trying to price a tattoo here is like trying to quote a tattoo on the phone, somewhat difficult.
please engage your brain BEFORE your fingers. what happens when you get tan? really? you get tan! you won't be "tanning" for a while after you have been tattooed. look around you, its summer right now if you bother to look you will no doubt see a few "tanned" people with tattoos. you have acne, will it affect the area you want to tattoo? duh, no shit! of course it will, yeah its bad news.
in the future read what people are telling you, all your questions were answered, you just didn't listen and nobody really wants to talk about the big dreams of future tattoos anyways, that most of the time are bullshit and a waste of everybodies time. do your own research, let your fingers do the walking, i surely don't want to and i'll bet nobody else wants to as well, to look up information for you that you could easily do yourself - google is your friend.
before commiting to a tattoo based on lyrics and/or a dead musican, i might make one suggestion, go to a studio, any studio and sit down and look at some artwork or go to someplace like www.bmezine.com and look at the hugh amount of good and bad artwork/tattoos there. there is actually quite a few pictures right here in the gallery, there is a link right to pictures at the top of every page. you'd be surprised i think, at what is possible. check out www.tattoos.com for some studios and artists near you or imagine this, open a phonebook. i'd buy the t-shirt not the tattoo of the dead musican _________________ Think BEFORE you ink, its gonna be on your hide for a very long time |

Personally, I think you need a better idea.
Great artists are probably easier to find in NYC, but they'll be more expensive than someone in NC. |

Your lawyer charges you for the time that he's thinking about you on his drive home, in the shower, boning his girlfriend, etc...
Tattooists charge you for the time that you are sitting in the chair, not for the countless questions he had to answer for you, or the time it takes to draw up your idea or make a stencil, or set up, clean up afterward.
A good artist is worth his rate. |

well said... to the OP perhaps it may be better to have done a smaller, more affordable tattoo done first, although i am sure many here will disagree, and save the larger piece for a later time. most newbies seldom, in my opinion, really know what they want or understand the commitment involved with a large piece and are more interested in just getting a tattoo, any tattoo for their first adventure. after the magic of the first tattoo has been experienced, more thought is involved with all the work that follows. testing the waters is helpful as you will know what to expect, how to care for any future tattoos and you'll have a much better idea as to where you want to go and how far you are willing to commit in the future.... it is a little difficult to wrap one's head around a idea that one has not experienced..... _________________ Think BEFORE you ink, its gonna be on your hide for a very long time |

A good artist is worth his rate.[/quote]
a good artist is definitely worth his rate and he doesn't charge for the 'extras'....only the time in the chair....it's the business, it's what he does, but not many people realize how much extra time an artist puts into even the simplest of tattoos....they think all they have to do is walk in, sit down, get the tattoo and leave, without ever giving any thought whatsoever to the before and after....
and yes, mykel, most first timers have no idea what they want to accomplish as far as lifelong tattooing goes....they more often that not think it'll be the only one....a tattoo for the sake of a tattoo....i agree that a small, well done tattoo to get things started is a good idea....just try convincing someone of that when they have a HUGE back piece in mind for a starter piece....haha....i know when i got my first one, i wasn't thinking of a second.....till i was in the chair, of course....i had my next idea all planned out and made the appointment for 2 weeks later.... ...but, that's just me..... _________________ life is short...don't waste it |
