The other day, one of the transcription girls was typing up a report for a patient for the floors. She turns and says outloud to us, "Wow, this person got hepatitis c from a tattoo. What a shame!"
I know from researching and reading on here how bad hepatitis is. All I could think about was that person in the report must of went to some scratcher. How fucked up is that?
It was just weird because even though I know it happens often, it was the first time I knew directly of someone who had it. |

This can also happen at shops. Government does not regulate checks on them, so many of them run rampant with nastiness and infect people.
This is why you should research each shop you are interested in. _________________ myspace.com/undergroundflavor11

| Getting Hepatitis C from tattoos is common in prison. Unfortunately many inmates will share needles and inkwells....not to mention the shit that they use to make prison ink. The Hepatitis C virus can live for 10 days in tattoo ink and up to 6 months on a dried surface. Some really scarry stuff. |

Well said.
I know a shop where the guys are normally drunk or stoned while they work.
They produce pretty shitty tattoos. _________________

| I'm not sure whether the guy was from prison or not. There might a chance he was. The reason why I thought of a scratcher at first was because of the area nearby. That area is a pretty bad area but then again it could be just a bad shop he went to. It could have been a handful of things. |

| Most prison tatts are rather poor in quality, but not all. I have seen some art that wasn't too bad considering their tattoo gun was once a ball point pen! |

How do they know it was from a tattoo? How does HE know it was from a tattoo. Maybe. Maybe not. It's easy to point fingers, but who's to say how this person got it? Just by what he says? No history of "risky" behavior, admitted or otherwise? No shared needles, shared toiletries (razors, toothbrushes, etc.), no unprotected sex, ever?
Unless several cases can be directly connected back to a single likely source, the's no telling how or where he got it.
Because tattooing is legal, legitimate, and nowadays a somewhat respectable activity, it's also an easy and likely excuse for someone not wanting to admit to other more illicit endeavors.
"Gee, Doc, I must have got it from that tattoo" is a lot easier to admit to than "Gee, it must have been one of those streetwalkers I picked up", or "Darn, I guess it's from some of that anonymous gay sex I've been having in all those airport men's rooms."
Think about it. Where had you rather direct the blame? _________________ Matt Crunk

| Most valid point Matt...and probably the most likely. He may have skeletons in his closet that he doesn't want to reveal. |

| That's true, Matt. The transcriptionist was typing what the doctor was dictating but then again (to quote House) everyone lies. |

the shop across the street from us, is going through a law suit for giving someone hepatitis,
atleast at our shop we have one schedule inspection, and one random inspection, every year, so that random one keeps us on our toes at all times
really serious stuff, the other day thank god the guy was being up front about it, but he wanted to get a tattoo, but he was hiv positive, that shook me up, because no one will be that up front about it
so you have to treat everyone like they have HIV, or anything else
its funny because i always hear about it, and read about it, but its a crazy feeling to know someone has it, gave me goosebumps _________________ www.myspace.com/eulaliatattoo |
