The proper term is "machine"...referring to it as a "gun" is usually frowned upon. _________________ "Be sincere; be brief; be seated" - FDR |

so you have to treat everyone like they have HIV, or anything else
its funny because i always hear about it, and read about it, but its a crazy feeling to know someone has it, gave me goosebumps |
yeah thats how I was the first time someone did that. We had a few people be really upfront about it, but.. just thinking of people who wouldn't..
freaked me out, especially after ripping my glove a couple times. _________________ "We shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti." |

| is transmission of hepatitis c due to tattooing as common as i have been reading? one site mentioned it may cause more infections than drug users. they even say clean tattoo parlors are still at high risk. |

The short answer is NO! Where the hell have you been reading that nonsense? Just who are "they", your parents? Site your source.
FACTS:
According to CDC records there were 291,000 new cases of Hep C reported in 1989. In 2006 there were only 19,000. During that same time, the estimated number of US tattoo studios grew from less than 1000 to over 15,000.
Of the 13,387 annual cases of hepatitis detailed in the most recent CDC report, only 12 were associated with tattoo studios. By comparison, 43 cases were associated with dental offices.
There has NEVER been a reported case of HIV being transmitted through a professional tattoo. _________________ Matt Crunk

Unfortunetally I know this situation all to well, I have Hep C... not from a tatt or drug use. My old man on the other hand picked it up during his prison stint and it was most likely from shootin up with a dirty needle, he being an abusive P.O.S., ended up transfering blood with me during one of our "lessons" (aka beating the hell out of me) and I ended up getting it a 12 or 13... it never affected me until I was 22 and had to go in to the Dr. for treatment... luckily its Hep C out of A,B or C. The lessor of the evils... its only transferred through blood, not sex.
I have to live very carefully around my house as not to infect my wife or son or while at work. You can't share objects that may have any source of blood on it... my tattoo artist is real cool about it and takes every safe procaution he can as not to get infected. Being up front about it is the best, I know at least 15 other people/friends who also have Hep and only one says its from tattoo work, the rest admit that it was most likely from drug use. My father-in-law picked it up from the hospital while having knee surgery, the donated blood was bad and they found out after he had already recieved a few bags and been sent home!
Its sucks for those of us who do have it and shouldn't, I have to deal with it all the time. You hear dumb ass comments about how its the same as HIV and how dirty people who have it are... close but nowhere near the same. It doesn't affect you the same at all, but to be safe always choose a clean shop for tatt work... your more likely to pick it up from a scratcher then you are at a clean shop. |

Maybe if they all got their tattoos in prison.
According to the CDC there is no greater percentage of tattooed people with HEP than those without them - EXCEPT among those with three or more tattoos who go them in a non-professional setting. _________________ Matt Crunk
