I have been wanting another tattoo for the past 15 years or so, finally plan on doing it with a friend. we've both been working on our designs. i have always loved art nouveau, and i know i want something based on rennie mackintosh's work. i also know that i want an artist who has done these types of designs, hopefully even loves the style themselves. problem is, i have not seen any artists fitting that description. in fact, the artists i have asked have not even heard of him. any suggestions?

oh, i am in philly, but love taking long weekends to other cities, and the tattoo i want would be a great excuse to travel.

thanks

you may have a hard time finding an artist that follows art nouveau.

anyway, i go to deep six laboratory (www.fixedarmy.com) in philadelphia for all of my work. they're one of the best shops in the state.

thanks for a quick response!
i'm thinking maybe i should be looking for artists into japanese design. that's more what my friend wants and japanese art was probably the biggest influence on the art nouveau movement. any suggestions for that style?

wow, i don't think i could have possibly spent more time in the last few days looking at tattoos. some really beautiful stuff out there, though tis still tough finding what i am looking for.

things i have learned:

craftsmanship is extremely important to me (duh, i s'pose)

japanese tattoos are very different from what was thinking of, though awesome. this tattoo is more what i was thinking for japanese design:

a little more sparse, asymmetrical, yet balanced. natural looking flowers (i am a florist, so the more stylized, almost cartoony flowers are not for me).

mucha seems to be the most imitated in tattoos so far as art nouveau goes, though he doesn't have the loose natural lines that i love mackintosh for. mayhap i should be looking for artists who are familiar with his work as it may be the closest i get.

i cannot find any of the specific mackintosh details i have been working on modifying online anywhere, but many other images give the feel

soo, hoping for one last bout of recommendations. i have a bunch of places bookmarked as maybes already, but it is so very difficult when looking in a medium i am not that familiar with. oh, and thanks for all the previous recommendations, gave me many places to start my search and learn about what to look for.
