i live in vacaville, ca and stopped in my local parlor. i went in and talked to the so called artist. man, they'd be lucky if they were 18. i asked one if they had a portfolio and of course........no. so i asked about doing a aztec calender and they said they wouldn't attempt it and the other artist agreed. now, i wasn't even considering having them do my tat, but i was trying to be polite at that point. this is supposed to be a respectable place. i went right down the street to another parlor and the guy had a nice portfolio so i started asking questions about what i wanted. he was just watching t.v. he was the owner and i think the only artist that works there. anyways. before i left i asked what about the price. ball park, what am i getting myself into. he said he charges $200 an hour for bid work. i don't know what the "F" bid work is, but $200 an hour and you better be a freakin' tom renshaw or robert hernandez. either that or super fast, lol. now, i know if your one of the artist out there you'll dissagree, but $125 an hour sounds pretty steep let alone $200 an hour. at that rate, what?? i'm looking at $3000 to $4000 for a sleeve??? that's rediculous. man, i hate to bargain shop for something like this, but i don't want to get price gouged.

Xkawn, like i said in my other thread i'll ask around since i have buddys in that area that are tattoo enthusiasts, but i wasnt quite sure what you were looking for. I know it's a drive but there was a shop here in san jose i checked out when looking for artists called lucky stars tattoo, one of the pieces that really stuck out was this lion face coming out of an aztec calendar, that looked pretty cool. I mean if you're willing to come this far there are also plenty of others in the south bay as well, but when you mentioned aztec calendar that one piece stuck out in my mind.... here's the website http://www.luckystarstattoo.com/ i beleive there is a picture of it on "robert's" portfolio page.

Well it will at least cost you an arm if that's where you're getting it, haha. I beleive that shop charges 125 an hour. I've been to about 5 different reputable shops in the south bay when researching artists, seems like everyone was charging 125 an hour, and at least one was at 150.

100-200 dollars an hour is the norm... Most charge around 100 unless there famous and/or awesome artists.
125 is what I'm paying an hour for my back piece. I paid 200 an hour for my thigh so my only question would be if there worth it? Since I can't see ther portfolio, that's up to you... _________________

well, the shop that had the 18 year old kids working there is called tattoo's unlimited or wild bill's (both names). no portfolio so that doesn't sound good to me. and the shop that wanted $200 an hour was chris p. tooles. he had a really good portfolio, but that kind of price just sounds like he wasn't interested in tattoo'ing then or me. one of the two. he was just sitting there with a girl watching t.v, lol.

Price is not ALWAYS an indicator of quality...but it is still not wise to "bargain hunt". _________________ If you GIVE a man fire, you keep him warm for the day...but if you SET a man on fire, you keep him warm for the rest of his life.

i agree, but i don't think i should be price gouged though. $200 an hour is unrealistic though. |

yea..your right..so look around i'm sure there are tons and tons of places around there...aannnd seriously though. This is permanent, you want something thats worth it sooo i wouldn't think about cash so much, like don't compromise, don't make it smaller or just black and Grey, just cuz u don't have money...you'll pay for it in the end... _________________ Oww!! why do people always bitch about the cost? this i s what i always tell my friends "what would you prefer? quality work that was a lil expensive? or a piece of shit that cost you $5 and a 6 pack?" _________________ in brightest day, in blackest night no evil shall escape my sight. let those who worship evils might beware my power GREEN LANTERNS LIGHT!!
