No. Never met a tattooer who didn't have a questionable background.

If it were ME, I would. That said, if all of your issues were in the past, it wouldn't be as big a deal as if, say, you got busted with a bag of coke and a bottle of pain meds last year or something.

True, but someone with drug problems will be less likely to NOT rob me blind in the process of scrubbing said tubes, lol

I was playin... I would investigate too if I were the shop owner. I wouldnt necessarily disqualify someone because they had a record if they were honest about it. I also would assume I would have built some relationship with someone who I'm going to apprentice, rather than just somebody that walks in the door asking for one... Probably not always the case...

Ideally, an apprentice would be someone the mentor has known for a year or two first. Making a background check unnecessary. I know times are changing, though.

Yeah Freddy, I think they happen when they should happen. I knew my mentor for three years before he took me on. He was working alone and knew he wanted to expand his shop in a couple years. Now he's got a two man shop with someone he knows and trusts.

I'm in the exact situation. Only diffeence is that I knew my boss for about 6 years before I scored my apprenticeship. Personally, as I've said before, when the time comes and my grey beard is down around my knees, I'll teach ONE kid the craft, that's it. I know guys that churn out an apprentice a year and it's really pretty sad IMO

Unless you have a brown beard. The whiskers turn red, then gray.

My fiance is half filipino; he has dark skin, jet black hair, and dark eyes. Yet in his facial hair he has some light red hairs that he gets from his father.

For some reason it cracks me up.
