Just browsing this morning, and checking out who I want to work my next piece - and came across this site.

The Owner of this shop (Johnny Jackson) is a really good artist, but in my limited exposure, the designer of the webpage (especially the gallery section) is off the charts . . .

I hate the website way to busy. The gallery section is hard to use (I have seen others with the same one).

While this artist is good the website leads me to believe that he is no where as good as he thinks he is.

The curious part to me is.. he's done two tattoos, of a lady who he tattooed.

Is she famous? or is someone just a bit obsessed? I just found that interesting.

She's his wife.

Famous? I guess that depends on what circles one travels in. Obviously she has some exposure, at least with some of the magazine photographers. I only know them from attending the local conventions - and the web-page.

Then who did he tattoo the portraits on? Himself?

Confused

Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean . . .

He's apparently done 100s of portraits on 100s of people (many of which are shown in his gallery), but I sure don't know who got portraits of his wife - if anyone did.

Artist = Amazing

Website = Too busy.

I, for one, am sick of flash applets. Seriously, you could do the same head/roll-over in CSS and it'd work better and load in half the time.

Beyond that, there's a lot of scrolling going on. A online dsign prof was told me "If it's not on the page when it loads, 75% of the potential clientel aren't going to scroll down and look for it", and I totally believe him. With thyat said, there's actually SO MUCH stuff on that main page that it takes a bit long to load via a DSL connection, which can be seen as a no-go as well. Why not break it up into more eaily digestable sections?

The gallery set-up is annoying, plain and simple. The fact that it's constantly moving, coupled with the fact that, by being so flashy (no pun intended), it's actually drawing attention AWAY from the amazing artwork and informative photos contained within is certainly a negaticve aspect, and the fact that there are 13 empty boxes is a bit of an eyesore.

The artwork itself is great, REALLY great, but the fact that you either half to deal with the flash BS or travel to their myspace page is a bit of a bother (though, admittedly, myspace is a great tool for artists to share work with an easy-to-use HTML/XML interface).

It's not the worst site I've been on (by far), but it's far from amazing.
