I've almost always used references for pretty much all my drawings but this one's pretty much the first (decent) one I've managed without any. Lemme know what you think!

thanks! Outline with micron pens, coloring with just colored pencils.

Im no artist by any means but I think they are distracting. the flower itself looks great.

It look like a preying mantis is going to jump out of the flower and eat me!
On art critique though, looks very good! Only one personal choice thing is.. it kinda looks dead. What with the darkness and the front right petal is at a slightly odd angle.
Course, the picture of the drawing was taken with low light it appears, so I don't know that it looks that dark in person.

Haha thanks! And yeah, I kind of wanted it to look a little poisonous/sinister, not a normal flower! so I'm actually glad you think it looks kinda dead. Though admittedly it is a little lighter in real life.

I find serious critiques are actually a bit difficult on this site. I'm not going to bother much after the love fest I just saw. Sorry man, I'm just not interested in the shit fest that would happen after I post. Lets be nice and give you a teeny criticism and say that a petal has some weird green stem and leaf colour on it, looks out of place.

Just throwing this out there... you sound way bitchier in that post than if you had just given me a serious critique. I don't post my drawings on here to fish for complements. As much as I, like anyone else, enjoy complements, I post stuff here because there are many artists/artistic people who can tell me things that will help me improve my art. So for real, if you have actual critiques to say, please post them. It'll help me, and that's kind of the whole point. So "lets not be nice and give a teeny criticism" while sounding like a douche, lets actually give some artistic input, ya? |
