|
|
I started my search about a month ago to look for an artist to do my 2nd tattoo. So far I've had an email exchange with one well known artist. After a few back and forths he said he thought my tattoo idea was a good one (and creative), but he couldn't take on any new clients due to the projects he has going on. I wonder how people are able to get time with a very popular artist.
I figured no harm in trying, but in my case Nick Baxter is just too busy for me. |

if they like it they will do it. carlos torres was all over my idea and moved me first in line for any cancellations (though my official appointment is in the books nov 2012).
i also think it helps if you already have a collection from well known artists. i know this is kind of a run-a-round answer, but i felt like name dropping has helped get me into artists where normally i wouldnt have been able to. |

Makes sense. Me with only one/no collection. I can see how it would be more difficult. I'll keep on trying. |

| get scheduled in a convention it's a lot easier to get in with top notch artists. But first and foremost they must like your idea. |

Unless Nick Baxter was pulling my leg (I don't think he was), at least he used the words "creative" and "interesting" for my tattoo idea. I honestly didn't think I could get a Nick Baxter caliper artist to do my tattoo, but I tried. I will continue my search - I want my 2nd tattoo to be great. |

That's the general idea, or at least the base for the idea. |

Dont sell your self short! Nick is a human being, and so are you. If he think your idea is good but he is far booked, just wait. |
He stated he wasn't taking on any new clients which means either my idea wasn't his style or not good enough to find room for me in his schedule. I even told him I would plan for a future date at a convention etc but that didn't work.
Not selling myself short, but at his stature I felt my chances were very slim to begin with. |

OR he is like other tattoo artist who have great amount of clients and do custom work; They dont want to have 30 clients on the list because that I imagine takes too much to handle at some point. All the planning etc. So many artist maybe open the books for example in 2012 and THEN start taking on new clients. That way they dont get cluttered and can focus on each client even more. _________________ www.myspace.com/pyrrhusdarwincastello

| From what I've read Baxter is one the the hardest to book because he's so selective in what he'll do so don't sweat it. |

| There are many great artists out there, all with personalities and limitations. Don't close the door because the 1st one you contacted didn't react how you wanted. |

Honestly, I'd be happy you even heard back from Nick. I've heard he's really hard to even get to respond. As for the not taking new clients, I know some high caliber artists won't take new clients until they finish up with others waiting. I believe Jesse Smith does this if I remember and that's how actualfact got in with him. They just don't want to build up a 2 year long wait list so instead they wait til they have client openings.
Just say thanks for the response and if you have any openings or are looking to take on a new project, keep me in mind. All you can do. Keep tabs on his facebook or twitter or myspace or homepage. Sometimes they'll throw up convention spots or openings that fill quick. |
