check it out if you please

http://thebroosevelts.bandcamp.com/album/chronicles-of-gnarnia

we're a punk rock band based out of nyc/long island. we've been compared to: crimpshine, american steel, against me, off with their heads, lawrence arms, jawbreaker, hot water music, and I would even say 90s alternative/grunge stuff like nirvana or green day except with gruffier vocals.

any feedback is welcome and if you dig it feel free to download it for free (put in $0.00 as the donation price.) like it, share it, all that jazz or listen to 30sec of one song and decide it sucks.

thanks <3

did anyone bother listening? got 30 views and not one mention of anyone liking it or not. I know it's not everyone's speed but even if you hated it... I'd like to hear why because it'll help me as a musician know what people are listening for.

alright. you asked for it. im a really honest person. its alright. not awful. the singer should work on more tonality in his vocals. all the songs except the dream boat song, everything he is growling is like the same tone the whole time... which makes the song kind of boring, and makes all the songs sound the same. also... there is only a rhythm guitar and a bass... which also just makes it kind of boring and blah. if you had some lead guitar or SOMETHING... ANYTHING to break it up, it would have alot more depth. but i think its alright. Smile i could see it being something good if you keep going with it and maybe experiment a little, kick it up a notch. BAM!. Smile just my opinion.

Maybe it's just not my thing since I grew up on classic rock and metal with great lead singers (Plant, Halford, Dio, Dickinson, etc) but I just couldn't listen to these screaming vocals. If that extremely gruff sound is what it's supposed to be then maybe ok but I could barely listen to it. I also agree with some of fe's points, a little repetetive and just nothing special to me. But again, I admit I couldn't listen to too much with those vocals.
Regardless of my opinion I hope you are very successful so good luck.

I listened to all of them but couldn't understand a word the person talking is saying. I honestly thought some of the songs had some nice riffs, music, etc. The $20 song was especially catchy. It reminded me of Pat B.'s "Hit me with your Best shot".
I agree with Fe, the guitar could be a lot stronger. In a three man band, the guitar and/or vocals needs to really blow it away and neither did. I don't mind screaming and growling but not the whole time. I want a singer that screams to be able to show off singing ability too. Bands that do both extremely well are Avenged Sevenfold, Five Finger Death Punch,Shaun Morgan of Seether, and Aaron Lewis of Staind

I really like Against Me and a bit of old school Nirvana as well, but I don't see the resemblance to either here. The vocals are just plain bad imho. I wish you luck though. A guy I went to HS with has a NYC band also and he's been struggling to make it .. competitive scene.

thanks for the feedback guys Smile

yeah avail is definitely a big influence of ours. I hear what you're saying about the vocals. I do think we would appeal to a wider audience if the vocals were cleaner and sung more, however there is a surprisingly big niche audience for gruff punk like hot water music.

I think the nirvana and against me references were more about the music and not necessarily so much about the vocals, but I can understand how that is what most people listen for or judge music on.

Personally, I give the dudes in my band 100% creative freedom as far as their vocals, lyrics, and guitar/bass work go, and they do the same for me and my drumbeats. Maybe we don't make awesomely polished music, but we're passionate about the music we do make and alls fair in love and punk rock.

I have to give them credit though that in the 3 going on 4 years since I've been making music with them they've gotten infinitely better and continue to do so. I have some earlier recordings of ours that would probably make you guys nauseous lol

Thanks again for the feedback and if you have any other criticism or compliments I'd like to hear it

heck yea. keep going with it... and i just to clarify, i dont think the vocals need to be more sing songy necessarily... i think the really gruff sound is interesting. like the distillers or something... just needs more variety in tone. its more of just talking as it is. Smile
