I had my first tattoo done about 2 years ago. It is what I wanted, sort of... Let me explain. I had always wanted my last name in Greek on the inside of my arm. I was set on all capital letters. Finally went to the shop to have it done and for whatever reason I let influence change my mind. I had it written out in all caps and in all lowercase letters. I told the artist I wanted to use the caps. She noticed the lowercase letters and asked if I was sure since the lowercase letters looked more art like and flowed well. Blah Blah - TOTALLY MY FAULT for changing my mind. Needless to say it's in lowecase letters and IMO the work is not good either. Some letters are closer together than others and the lines are not crisp and I also have some areas that are not completely filled in.
I am going to have more work done so I am looking for the best rout to proceed. My thoughts are 3 fold...
1. get it removed and start from scratch
2. Cover up - but it's a lot of letters and obviously dark so probably not the best option
3. Go to a good artist and add to it and enhance what is already there.
I woudl greatly appreciate your HONEST and BRUTAL feedback.
Thank you for your help!

I honestly don't think that capital letters would have looked any better. I mean, it is not horrible, but yeah a little amateurish and she fucked up on the spacing. The good news, of course, is that it is on the inside of your arm versus your forearm or some place more visible.
Having someone add to it or enhance it is just going to be a shit show and you will still most likely not be happy. I would suggest a cover up, but definitely laser treatment first to fade it out. Otherwise an artist is going to have a hard time covering it up.
Reaearch laser removal places in your area. Also find a top notch tattoo artist to get involved with the process now. |

| If it were my arm I would get a couple sessions of laser and cover it up with something totally awesome which is not my own name. Perhaps your name is important to you, but I could never see myself getting my name on me in any language haha. Personally I prefer images to text in general but whatever floats your boat. Even if you got some laser you would be best off not trying to do the name over again since typically laser is only truly effective at lightening something, not removing it entirely. You could get the name again elsewhere if you really wanted it. |

| Well, actually my name and my culture means a lot to me. For me that is a good enough reason and I sure as hell did not get the tattoo for anyone else. |

Maybe it's a Greek tradition... like The Olympics, or sodomy. |

I think a lot of people like text tattoos. Typically NOT tattoo enthusiasts, but definitely the general public. And a lot of people like non English script because it looks different and "cool". That's subjective, of course.
I just don't understand why we make a big deal everytime someone comes here with a text tattoo. It's not like we haven't seen them a million times. This guy probably went with his name because it's just as good as anything else in Greek. Nobody's going to know what it means anyway.
In any event, I'm not a fan of the tatt either and I hope the OP goes with the laser and a GOOD cover up by a telented artist. The OP might want to consider looking through a ton of portfolios and posting some ideas here first before making a decision however. I would hate to see the guy go through all that work and pain just to cover it up with a Greek flag or something stupid. |

I don't mind text in banners (as part of a larger tattoo) and I even don't usually mind hand-drawn script. But straight, plain text printed from a computer and plopped onto the body like that lacks any semblance of imagination, style or flow. It is - to me personally - unappealing in every way. This is the kind of tattoo that is gotten by a person who really wants to be tattooed but can't think of what to get. |

If you ask for honest and brutal feedback, don't get pissy when you get it. |

How do you separate the men from the boys in Greece - a crowbar. |

I appreciate the feedback and for the record I would never get a greek flag. Hell, I wouldn't even get an American flag.
I have other ideas and I am also really into biomechanical work. I have been researching cover up artists as well as laser removal for a while. I came in bere as an ask the experts type deal. People in bere have experience with cover ups, lasering, etc and all of your feedback is good and helpful. |

You are correct sir, I did ask for honest and brutal feedback... On what route I should take moving forward. I didnt ask if my design was "cool" or if you all liked it. I was responding honestly to the first person that replied. |
