|
|
This will be my first tattoo, I have been looking for the right one for a couple of years now.
First off, do tattoo artists have any policy on copying a tattoo from the internet? I found a tattoo that is PERFECT for me.

I am going to see if the tattoo artist will change it up a bit, put his own spin on it. I want the uncle Sam skull and the flag first. It will be a half sleeve for a while. Could I get an estimate on how much the half sleeve would cost? Again, I ONLY want the uncle Sam skull and the flag!!
Thanks!
When I decide to finish the sleeve, I have a different bottom in mind. I want the same type of bright sky, but with a nuclear explosion and soldiers wearing gas masks. Sort of a Doomsday tattoo. |

How old are you? Just a really hardcore tattoo and if you are like 18-25 or something you might end up regretting it, especially in such a visible place.
I think most tattoo artists will work with you. They usually won't copy another tattoo, but def would use it as a general idea to work with. |

Make sure that it wraps all the way around in order for it to be an official half sleeve.
The price is $1,100 per quarter sleeve. Thats the standard rate they have to charge per the U.S. Tattoo association. |

The whole idea sounds pretty cool, if not a little anti-American in my opinion. Its impossible to give you a good estimate because tattoo artist charge different prices based on many different factors. Anywhere from 20-250+ an hour. Find a good artist and talk to them about price. I'm guessing the sleeve picture you posted cost about as much as a good used motorcycle. Good luck. |

I don't know what they charge but $20 is too much.

But actually I met an apprentice at one shop that was doing some tattoos for free, and soon after she was charging $20 an hour and she was doing pretty good work. |

After realizing there were three artists I was going to ask which you were going to go with.
And then I looked at their portfolios
Not a one, dude. Go somewhere else. |

Holy flyin' fuck! Worst artwork I've seen all day! Hardman Tattoo? How about Hardly Talented Tattoo?
Just goes to prove that any goof with with an Ebay account can get all the supplies needed to be a top-notch tattooist... |

Sadly this seems to be the norm in my area. There are maybe 2-3 shops in colorado that I have found that I would consider getting tattooed in.
hopefully I can get hooked up with an artist at the Paradise/Keystone convention. Still trying.

Don't worry I would never get tattooed there. I was just trying to demonstrate what a $20 an hour tattoo might look like. But I have never been in this shop and don't know what they charge. |

| OP, that is a very ambitious first tattoo. I'd say that picture you posted cost several thousand dollars and probably a dozen visits. You might want to consider something a little less time-consuming and expensive for your first go-around. Start small and see if you even like it. Just my two cents. |

Yeah, and artists post their BEST work, but these might be their ONLY work. Sad that crappy shops seem to have plenty of work.
