What are the perks of going to a convention to get your tattoo. I have some work i would like to get done soon and there is a convention coming up. Is the main perk that you have options of getting work done by artists that are not in your city? Is it cheaper the going to a shop? and do you have to schedule an appointment or do you just show up?
my only tattoo was done at a shop and im trying to decide if its worth it to go to the convention |

Yes. The benefit is that the artist comes to you. Downside is, most great artists are booked for the convention way in advance, many a full year. I'm deciding who to book a couple hours with next year in Detroit and gonna put a deposit down right now. Prob one of teh Black13 guys.
I just got tattooed at the Detroit convention, and was lucky enough to get a walk up with Russ Abbott. I work there, and I went in as it opened and shopped the idea. I think I was the only non pre-booked he did all weekend.
The other "advantage" is the ability to portfolio shop and discuss your ideas with artists, but you're usually not leaving that day with a tattoo.
Its not usually any cheaper to get tattooed at a convention. _________________

| Drawback is for me anyways is your usually hung over so it's more uncomfortable, you have to have a longer session to finish unless you book the artist the whole convention. I got tattooed 3 days in st Louis about 6 hours a day and it wasn't too bad. My gf got about the same amount of hours with our artist. But he doesn't make appointments for the convention. Just does what he wants. |
