What's up everyone. I did a search for Houston artists but didn't really find someone who does what I'm looking for. Hopefully someone can help me out.
I'm trying to find an artist who's really good with black and grey and also Mexican/Aztec work. I plan to get full sleeves and my entire back and stomach covered up within the next few years. I can't really say the exact type of work because I want different types of things but definitely no color on my body. More of evil/dark shit, little bit of lettering (yes, I know y'all hate it), and Mexican/Aztec themes. I would really prefer to have one person I stick with who I can establish a connection with.
These 2 shops and guys have been recommended a few times. Thoughts? Sorry, I know you have to log in to Facebook to check them out.

David is coming along, but if you're looking for abolute top quality then your choices in Houston are limited. Johnny Jackson is excellent at the evil/dark stuff, and Nate Beavers is a world class artist.
Both mostly due color work, but I don't know if that's because it's what they want to do or if it's because their clients expect it.
I haven't seen anyone in Houston, Austin, Dallas or New Orleans who really specializes in Mexican/Aztec and is also a top notch artist. |

Thanks for the replies guys. I wouldn't mind taking a little trip for Mexican/Aztec work but there's no way I'm doing it for every single tattoo. Yeah, those guys specialize in color tattoos I believe.
Stubarber - let's just say the best in town? Not necessarily top quality, world recognized artists. I know there has to be someone in a Texas city who really gets down with Mexican and Aztec work a.d just black grey in general. |

A friend of mine wanted to get his 1st tattoo commemorating his sucessfull transit of the Machu Picchu trail in Peru - so he was thinking black/grey Inca stonework or architecture 3d style. I dug through a dozen or so websites thinking there just had to be some Mexican dude somewhere in Houston who could pull it off. Nothing stood out.
If you find one in your search, please let me know. |

| The closest person I have so far is Omar from Los Muertos. A few tattooists around town recommended him for that type of work. There has to be someone either in town or San Antonio. |

I got some cards from the convention this past weekend and did some more research. I don't see anything for me but DAMN, this guy really gets down with color work. This is some real bad ass shit! I guess he specializes in anime/cartoon stuff which I usually hate...

Article 91 is another card I got. Not feeling any of their work to much...

Super Chango Tattoo. I can't even view pictures on their website.

I guess I'll be sticking with the 2 shops I originally mentioned unless someone can chime in with someone else. Liz Cook in Dallas looks good but I don't see ONE black/grey piece in her gallery. I'm hesitant to go to someone who hardly touches black and grey. |

Keep looking. I can't imagine getting the amount of work you are describing from either of these artists. Take a close look, some of their proportions are off and Omar's work is just weak, particularly his religious stuff. You are talking about a major commitment and I wouldn't settle for someone just because they are close. Traveling would be temporarily inconvenient; bad sleeves are forever. |

Clint is fabulous, especially new school and especially if you want at tattoo of a dismembered girl. He works at Article 91, by the way.
Again - just because someone specializes in color work doesn't mean they can't or won't do black/grey. I'd MUCH rather go to a high quality artist and talk with them about something (they might be dying to do) than go to someone else who is already just average at what you are looking for. |

| Morning Wood - you're acting like they're horrible jailhouse artists. I have some work from David and always get compliments. I'm happy with it. Sucks finding someone... |

This is what I'm talking about. I'm not gonna get Aztec designs all over my body but it looks like they get pretty detailed with black and grey...

I'd have to wait until next year if I do that. Honestly, I wouldn't feel real comfortable not talking face to face with someone before they touch my skin. I don't know. I'll probably get the Aztec work after I finish everything else on my body. I'm in no rush at all. |

This shop is one I was asking about when I first started posting here a week or so ago. Is this the same guy? |
