She was (is?) travelling with Theresa Sharpe. They were in Austin 2-3 weeks ago getting tattooed (Kelly's got an awesome Gogue bird on her back). With her starting in a new shop in just a couple of weeks, it only stands to reason that she's in the process of moving.
She's popular, so you're going to have to be patient. |

| Did not know she was in Austin recently. I'm fine being patient, was just wondering if I was not hearing back because she was not interested. I'll keep right on waiting, and saving! |

So, I'm still waiting patiently to hear my Kelly Doty. In the meantime, I continue to keep looking at more tattoo portfolios on the off chance something with Kelly or Marty does not work out.
I found this guy through the Ink and Dagger website, he did a guest spot there last year. The artist "Lil D" (that is so weird typing that and not being black), I believe, is the owner of his own shop, 1920 Tattoo.
Do you experts care to share thoughts/opinions on this shop/artist?

Once again, thanks. |

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the work but it just seems to be missing that special something. _________________

Appreciate the feedback.
Tried calling Ink and Dagger again today but did not have luck catching anyone. I'm heading down that way in a couple of weeks to visit my wife's family. Hopefully, I can find out her schedule so I can stop by to meet her, have a little consultation, pay a deposit, and schedule my first session! Man, I hope this works out. Well, I also hope she isn't $200/hr too. |

Heard back from Kelly yesterday. It made me very happy to know I had finally succeeded in getting through.
Sent her a response, pitching my idea, so now I'm crossing the 'ole fingers and hoping it is something she would be interested in taking on. |

Welp, still at it. My hours at work have been cut so my hopes for getting a tattoo by the end of year fell through. Looks like February or March now.
Doy, at Black 13, said they would not be booking that far out until November, so my wait to schedule with Marty continues.
I never heard back from Kelley after our initial email exchange, so I've kind of moved on. Besides, she charges more than Josh Woods, which I found surprising.
As usual, I continue to read, explore, and look at portfolios as I wait for November. Was hoping for some feedback about this guy, Chad Sinkhorn, whose shop is about 5 minutes from me, so that is a perk! It is the shop where Nate Beavers worked, until he recently moved back to Texas. I thought his worked looked solid (from an inexperienced eye, that is) and he must work fast. According to his facebook, the eagle chest piece only took 5 hours, which seemed pretty freaking quick.
Thanks again, everyone.

Always take hourly rate with a grain of salt. Take a artist working at $100 an hour that takes 8 hours to do a piece or an artist that charges $400 an hour and busts out the same piece in 2 hours both are $800 so try to get their estimate on the time that they think it will take. That being said Josh at $150 an hour is a bargain because he is pretty fast.

Looks good and will probably do a bang up job on your tattoo. _________________

I think Kelley took the prize for best color at the Paradise Convention last weekend. She's no slouch compared with Josh.
Chad is not on their level, but better than average. |

| Kelly seems to be one of those young artists that went from being unknown to rock star practically overnight. Working alongside all those amazing guest artists that constantly flow through Off the Map probably didn't hurt, either. When I was at that shop a couple of years ago I think she was $125, I can't imagine where she's at now. Good for her. |
