| hi, i just started reading the post old and new and have found some really interesting information. i would like to get a tattoo of a flower on my innr thigh but all of the pictures i have found and all of the attempts i have tried to draw have been horrible. i'm not girly so i don't want pretty girly colors just black and white with a tribal background. any advice for how to make it flow or where i can find some good ideas in design online or any good artists i could email to see if they would be interested in designing something. thanks for reading this and i hope you have some good advice for me other than going to an artist near me bc i already did that. thanks |

If you went to an artist near you, and no one could do the drawing, then they weren't an artist, and they can't be trusted to do the tattoo, either. Go to an artist 'not as near' and try again.
People get pissed off when I tell them the only way I will suggest is to go to a tattoo artist and have them draw it...but there is a VERY GOOD REASON FOR IT. If they can't draw you a damn design, WHY ON EARTH would you trust them to do a perminant version on your flesh??! If I have to draw something for someone else to tattoo, they shouldn't be tattooing, now should they? I would love to help everyone by drawing designs for them, but why should I (or anyone) invest the time so you can take it to a hack who can't draw and have them attempt to tattoo it on you? You would be far better off going to a studio that has artists who can handle it from conception to fruition, instead of involving several mediocre people along the way. If you are in the North East, or are willing to travel there without wasting my time, and you want a custom design, just send me a private message, and I will set you up with an appointment and come up with exactly what you want at a reasonable price for the quality. |

| maybe i should have been a little more specific. i agree with both of your opinions but the fact is that i want to have something that i know will look good before i travel an hour o go to someone and decide that since i drove that far it would be "ok" for my design thats why i want some ideas to start out with. i live in upstate new york if that helps and you could reccommend a good artist if you know any then maybe it would be worth the drive. thanks |

My place is about 5 hours south of you. So, if I draw you a design, what guarantee do I have that you will come here to get the tattoo done? Will you give me a deposit so I am not drawing you something you will take to a local hack? The problem with asking for a design on the internet is that as soon as I send you the design, how do I know you aren't gonna rush right down to 'Hepetitus Earl's Tattooing' and get it slapped on?
In my studio, we take a deposit, and draw the design...and will work with you until it is exactly what you want, then do it. The design is not going to leave the studio, so I don't have to worry about you taking it elsewhere.
If you are willing to make the trip, and are serious enough to make a deposit to insure I am not wasting time, I will be happy to come up with whatever you want. |

Sharps Tattoo, Who is a moderator here is in upstate New York (I think) and has an amazing ability with art as well. You still want to see the art drawn by the tattooist before they start. Every artist is an idividual and it will help ensure you get what you want. The average person lives to be 74, If you have to look at something for that many years a few hours investment is worth it.

| I have people make 6 hour trips from NYC and Philly to get tattoos. If you are serious, there should be no problem in the investment of time, and the traveling is part of the overall experience. I personally have a relatively small tattoo that I made 2 different 9 hour trips to get. It was worth every second. |
