Hi

I am looking for somw advice regarding a problem I have with some of the Tattoo's I have.

Very Quick History

I got my first Tattoo on the Left Upper arm about 6 years ago. Iliked it so much I had a total of 3 tribal Tattoo's done,1 on my Right Upper arm, 1 on my Right Shoulder and 1 on my Right Chest. This work was done over a period of 3 years and by Different Tattoo Parlours in th UK. Only 2 colours, Black and Blue.

The Problem Crying or Very sad

About a year after I had the final Tattoo done I started to develop raised Lumps on some of the Blue area's of th Tattoo's, these I have now had for the last 2 years. My local doctor has had a look and stated that I am allergic to the Blue ink, my local tattooist disagrees.

Recently my local tattooist went over 1 of the effected area's to try and bleed some of the ink out. That was when we found out that the raised Lumps are full of Blood. After about 2-3 weeks the Lumps returned in the same place as before.

I have had some more work done over the past year but this is not affected in any way at all it is fine, even though the main colour is purple.

Please has anyone any idea's, advice anything really, as both my doctor and Tattooist are both at a loss to explain this.

Are they soft lumps like blisters or hard lumps?

Thanks for the reply Bensongg

Soft Lumps, you can feel the fluid inside. Also they vary in size from a small pimple size to the larger ones which are about 9mm in diameter.

When the tattooist went over some of them they were quite painful and took a few weeks to heal.

It is either an allergic reaction to the pigment itself or the lubrication the artist used, ie. Vaseline, A&D, etc. I myself cannot use A&D or bacitracin on my own healing tattoos. In my 9 years tattooing I have only seen two reactions. One is the same blisters you are describing the other was an inflammatory action. Neither appeared right away, both tattoos appeared to be fully healed before the reactions occurred.
I would suggest using a Hydrocortisone cream and see if it helps. I have even heard old-timers talk of the use of Preparation H. Otherwise you should go back to your doctor.
I would however like to hear more of what your artist has told you and what he has done to try to help you. You say he went over the affected area, do you mean he literally went over the blisters, chewing up that already soft skin, trying to put in more ink? Thats sounds like a nightmare.

Cheers Bensongg for the reply

The tattooist went over one area with a darker ink and another area with just water, only small area's as it was painful and I bled like a stuck pig. Crying or Very sad

The one thing in common was the use of Vasaline, but my new tattoos were done with vasaline as well and I have no problem with them.

I have tried several creams that the doctor has supplied with no effect at all, so any idea's are gratefully appreciated. Smile
