Hey everyone. Just joined so this is my first post.
I'm just curious if you know of any really well designed shop sites. I am about to design one for my friend and am looking for inspiration. Thanks in advance.

One piece of advice I can give you is... DON'T OVERUSE FLASH.
A Flash Tattoo site is annoying as shit. The worst idea ever is a flash photo gallery. The technology and internet speed for most visitors is not up to par and will cause a lot of people to not want to look at more than a few pics in your portfolio. Designers forget that not everyone is working on high speed internet with the latest version of Adobe Flash and a G5.
A flash intro to the site... maybe, but the WHOLE SITE.. hell nah _________________ www.ProphBundy.com |

| I'd have to disagree. If flash is done properly is to looks really good. Here is an example: http://www.chrisodonnelltattoo.com/ |

How good it looks doesn't change the fact that you limit your audience by making fast dl and processing speeds a requirement by using lots of flash. like so many things in life. less is more. |

And its really hard to notice that the gallery "button" is in the left corner. REALLY small. I think a good site example is www.nickbaxter.com
Easy to use and you can click detailed pictures of the tattoos. No flash. _________________ www.myspace.com/pyrrhusdarwincastello

Thank you. This dude just ignored everything I said because he likes how that site looks.
That site makes me not care about the artist. On my low 1mbps WiFi connection it took 10-30 seconds for each picture to load. That's way too long for a low res picture.
I would much rather have an artist just register a domain name and forward it to their MySpace or even Flickr account, rather than have to go thru all that to look at there work.
I agree about Nick Baxters site. I've spent an hour on there looking at his work, because it's user friendly, fast, runs smoothly, and has a shit load of great work. NOT BECAUSE it took an hour to load 10 pics.... like some sites. _________________ www.ProphBundy.com |

Beyond that, an overly impressive website could actually divert attention away from what matters : The artist that the site is trying to promote.
Keep it simple and user-friendly. XML and CSS are all you need, really. Skimp on the java applets and embedded flash and whatnot. Make the site effortlessly to surf and keep the attention where it matters : The artist _________________ "Sometimes a Tattoo is Just a Tattoo. Not everyone wants some giant piece of art. no matter what people could always just screenshot the page or save the page as a whole or even use a digital camera and a xerox machine to blow it up. NOt allowing right clicking/saving pictures wont stop anything. |

| I once visited a site that didn't allow you to right click/save due to copyright or whatever, but you could click it and it would open and enlarge in a new window and you could save that. Somebody dropped the ball. |

All the xml and CSS in the world can't stop the "Print Screen" key apparently _________________ "Sometimes a Tattoo is Just a Tattoo. Not everyone wants some giant piece of art. Some People just want a Tattoo, small and simple, and that's great!" - Joe Capobianco |

The best thing you can do to protect your images is the watermark, everyone else is right you can't keep someone from copying there own screen. _________________

I personally, have hundreds of pictures of quality tattoos, from all my favorite artists, saved on my hard drive. Why? Inspiration. There's nothing wrong with letting people right click or download your images, like someone said, just watermark them. It's not that serious.
Most of these artists, that go thru all that trouble to safeguard their images, SUCK... and the best in the business don't give a fuck about you saving their work. So take a hint. _________________ www.ProphBundy.com |

I hate sites that automatically play music. My profile does but thats mine and it only represents me not a shop or any other person. _________________
