So this is my first tattoo I got. It's on my right wrist. I've had it for a couple years now and it really needs to be touched up and I am kind of depressed that I got something I am not that fond of. I get compliments on it that it's cute but I want BEAUTIFUL!! is there anything I can do to make this look better??? I'm not a huge fan of a lot of color... I love alot of like twirls and what not. I'm just not sure how to get it to look better. Any suggestions? |

Was this done at a reputable shop? I simply ask because it just looks really "eh", know what I'm saying? As far as a rework, let's look at the situation:
The Good :
- It's a simple design with a pile of room for improvement
- What's there, while not being spectacular, isn't "horrible" and can certainly be snazzed up
- It's reasonably symmetrical as is, which is a good thing
The Bad :
- linework inconsistancy, but it can easily be fixed
- The greywork. seriously, it's just messy and gives the appearance of a blow-out around the butterfly
Ok, seriously, if i were you, i'd find a solid, reputable shop. Explain to the artist that you'd like the tattoo re-worked and fixed up, and tell him you'd like to keep it black and grey.
If it were me, I'd re-line the butterfly, sculpting the wings' outlines, and thicken up the body line as well. I'd add a head and antenna, then work in 2-3 shades of greywash as well as a bit of white highlights to the butterfly, and a bit of super-dilluted, ultra light greywash accents to the little swirls as well (mayhap even add a new swirl pattern in greywash as well, who knows).
It seems, to me, like it'd be a reaonably easy fix. Start hitting shops and find an artist to hook you up! Let us know how it all works out. best of luck! _________________ "Sometimes a Tattoo is Just a Tattoo. Not everyone wants some giant piece of art. you'd be surprised how much a splash of color can add to a tattoo. Maybe you're not too keen on the whole thing being colorful, but a little bit of even one color could be just the thing to make it pop. Otherwise maybe add some flowers to it and have the grey wash touched up. good luck with whatever you decide, keep us updated with pics if you get any work done on it. _________________
