| on Saturday night, I did my own industrial. I used a hollow 16g piercing needle and sterilized my barbell, which is also 16g. I had tried the previous weekend piercing the top part, but only left it a bit bruised and cut up, and only succeeded in piercing the part on the side of my ear. Now that I have the whole barbell in, the top part of my ear is swollen and hurts really bad. It doesn't only hurt when I knock it on something, it hurts constantly, and even gets worse when I so much as smile. there is no pus, but I am wondering if this could be just because I didn't give it enough time to heal, or if its infected? I really don't want to take it out, but will this go away? |

First off your an idiot for doing it.
Could be any number of thing that are making it so painful for you. One its a cartilage piercing which from what I hear hurt a hell of a lot more than your lobes or lips. The healing time for a cartilage piercing is much longer than your lobes.
Angle would be the other thing. Any two tier (industrial) piercing needs to be straight so that one end does not but excess stress on the other. A general rule of thumb around here seems to be to heal an industrial with two separate pieces of jewelry and once fully healed to put a single bar or rings through the two. _________________

My best advice for you would be go to a shop and have it looked at. I have seen so many people come in and out of the shop that I work at looking to get their "home-made" piercings fixed. You need to make sure that the shaft is long enough, and that your ear is not buckling. Because it was done in an uncontrolled environment you may need to have that jewelry taken out and have a fresh sterilized one put in. There are many things that could be going wrong with your piercing but the definite way to fix it is to go to a shop and ask for advice.

A few questions....you said you pierced it yourself..ok how did you see to line it up right? next..hollow needle..ok new needle? After that you sterilized the barbell...how? I would say if you did not use an autoclave then good chance it is infected. Also type of jewls used. Surgical steel seems to be the best to start with...so this is something you probley won't get much help with here. It sounds like the top part is hurt do to trying to push it through different times and maybe a bad needle.
Best advice.. TAKE IT OUT AND GET TO A DOCTOR! Without seeing it I can't help anymore than that. |
