How does vitiligo affect a tattoo? Vitiligo is basically when your body attacks pigment resulting in white splotches. It comes in pretty common locations, the area I want tattooed is the back of my elbow. Will that skin take ink. Anyone have a tattoo over a vitiligo effected area?
i thought that vitiligo was when the skin lost its pigment.. i dont think it "moves"
it appears that one of the treatments for it is tattooing in color to match the surrounding skin....so it must be safe ?
Micropigmentation (tattooing) – This procedure involves implanting pigment into the skin with a special surgical instrument. It works best for the lip area, particularly in people with dark skin. However, it is difficult for the doctor to match perfectly the color of the skin of the surrounding area.
The tattooed area will not change in color when exposed to sun, although the surrounding normal skin will. So even if the tattooed area matches the surrounding skin perfectly at first, it may not later on. Tattooing tends to fade over time. In addition, tattooing of the lips may lead to episodes of blister outbreaks caused by the herpes simplex virus.

Where my dove is, I have some skin discoloration. I figured it was a birth mark, sounds kinda like this though.
My skin is splotchy and practically white there, moving down to my ankle. In summer, everything tans but it. My tattoo looks fine, and haven't had issues with it?

Yea, it an auto-immune disorder. Pigment can come back, but it can also get worse. I am so pale that it is hard to notice, but I was wondering if it would effect the tattoo. I have pretty strange skin: hairy, bumps on the arms, streach marks and vitiligo, plus a few moles.sadie703 wrote:i thought that vitiligo was when the skin lost its pigment.. i dont think it "moves"
i got the arm bumps too. my mom had them as well.. mine have sorta gone away tho..
and then i got freckles , not a ton but they reeeeally show in the summer.. so my skull on my right arm has freckles on it as well lol

Well tatooing can be a good option but it may fade after some time and will not tan again, for Vitiligo treatment Re-pigmentation therapy is even better option
