Curious... i do a lot of stupid things and get hurt a lot. Before I get a tattoo I would like to know how cuts and brushburns can affect a tattoo. Also, i was wondering how well tattoos take over scar tissue. Ive read a post about tattooing over stretch marks and they dont seem to be an issue but somehow i think tattooing over scars might be different. Im getting a full arm tattoo and the scarring is on my elbow and lower forearm. The scarring isnt severe but its been there for a while and still visible.

I know this has been covered fairly extensively but you can be tattooed over a scar, as long as the scar is at least a few years old. Different artists feel more comfortable than others about it so check with your particular artist. I have a tattoo partially covering a big scar from a torn biceps tendon which looks fine, it can still be seen a little because the scar isn't a smooth surface like the other areas.

From my limited experience it is doable depending on the scar. I find tattooing over scar tissue to be more painful than normal & so says the few who I have done. Scar tissue can take or not take ink as well as the surrounding area however, at least on my skin. I have a nice one one down the front of my leg from just below the knee almost to the ankle & when I did my calf piece part of the design went into the scar & it hurt quite nicely!
