Here goes. I have a few photos of a Luna moth I captured this year and decided I'd love to try and incorporate them into a tattoo. I did a Photoshop mock-up on a bad pic of me to show POSSIBLE placement. After doing this I realize I love the pose of the moth on top but I am uncertain of placement.
Either ankle, bicep/upper arm, outer high/thigh/leg area or lower back. I like symmetry but my idea went from a single Luna moth to several moths of different species and my current idea is to perhaps have them on my side/hip/side-butt that extends halfway up my ribs or halfway down the outside of my leg and thigh. I love stars and moons but don't want basic black outline so I will try to find an artist who can create sort of a "galaxy" background for me if I can.
Basically asking if these sound like reasonable expectations and placements or what other artists/enthusiasts would recommend. I can take a better photo and PS on moths on the other ideas I had ideas for if need be.

I think the top moth looks sexy where it is in the picture. 
That said, if you want to expand it, I think you could make an insane sleeve (or half sleeve if you want to limit it to above your elbow) with some moths and spacey background. |

Thanks! I do have a sleeve idea for one arm but I am not sure I want both arms with half-sleeves (only half because of work, grr). I have always hated my legs so the idea of putting it on the top of my legs appeals to me..I have another shot of just one moth (Actias luna) for my shoulder:
And one that shows the 3 different species of moths I would LOVE to try and incorporate. This shows more leg placement but going up the ribcage is an idea, I'd just prefer it to stay centralized at the hip area with the North American species (Actias luna) and have the others slightly smaller surrounding it. I don't mind if they wrap around the top of my leg or around my ass a bit and yeah..sorry, no crotch! Linked for mild NWS maybe?
some mothy goodness on my hips/legs?

| If you don't want to go for a sleeve/half sleeve I think having the collage on your hip would look great. You could go as big as you wanted and not worry about having to hide it at work (unless you're a nude model). |

Is that Not Safe for Work or Not Safe for Wife?  I like the MS Paint smiley face, though. And everything else about the picture. 
Yeah, a hip piece will look killer too. I don't think you can go too wrong with your elements, I like it a lot.
Also, what's wrong with long sleeves, work-wise? I'm a lawyer and have tattoos up and down one arm and am starting a full sleeve on the other soon... Easily hidden at work. |

I don't have a problem with half sleeves but I only want one right now and am waiting for the right idea/design to compose itself. I have scattered ideas of what I want to incorporate but am hoping to have Jon Clue do the art for me so it will take a few years to save up/fly out to where he is to get it done since it's a much bigger project than any other tattoos I have planned. I don't mind long sleeves at all but summer gets hot and I like to wear tank tops or short sleeves if I can.  I don't have a job technically right now but it's easier to wait until I have a steady one before getting something as permanent as a sleeve/half sleeve. That and I'm only 23, I don't want to use up all my canvas before I'm 30 because what if I want something else later? I have lots of time.
LOL @ Yorvo I didn't even NOTICE the camera strap mustache on my face. XD That is awesome. I should have blacked out my face in the NWS one because I look so super serious/scared or something..very awkward like "OH GOD SUCK IN THE FAT THIS HAS TO BE PRETTY FOR THE INTERNET". No bueno.
Also what is the VIP section? I don't think I've ever bothered to try and check...wait..just clicked, member access only. Weeelllll I guess it's a special happy place then. :3 With candy and dancing ladies? Are they dancing WITH candy? Do these ladies give OUT candy? Holy shit, candy!! Fuck, let me in.

Ah..tattoo. Thanks for all the suggestions! I also have a more, uh, butt-angle shot that I need to add the moths to since my ass is HUGE and is like..more canvas space than I know what to do with but it's a little harder to censor and I don't know if I want it 100% public, y'know? As if my happycrotch isn't bad enough. I do fancy the moths going up my hip and sides and down my leg, I just don't have very toned legs so it'll at least cover the inevitable varicose veins when they come along. I wouldn't mind if they sort of spilled over on my butt (side-butt?) because honestly my original ass-tattoo idea was Norbert and Daggett from Angry Beavers and even though I'd do it for the LULZ I just..I'm not sure if they are appropriate for permanent ass-art. The moths I Photoshopped are a bit small and I'll definitely want them bigger and probably semi-realistic with minimal black lines.

Wait..did you tell a chick..to stop.. thinking..like a chick? *mind BLOWN* ;3 Hahaha, kidding! I know, it's habit, but it's way better than I used to be. I just look silly and disproportionate in photos, hahah. I'm just not sure if I really want THAT much of my ass showing on a huge public forum (regular visitors or not, it's still my ass..on the internet..LIVE AND UNCENSORED WOOO [er, pixelated most likely]). Maybe if I can get a shot where I'm NOT twisting awkwardly in a dirty bathroom mirror because that MySpace shit is annoying, tacky, and never flattering. Perhaps I'll get the boyfriend to help.
On to the moths, I'm in Birmingham AL and while I'd love to stay close to find an artist if anyone has recommendations for an outstanding artist who does beautiful color/detailed/insect work I'd appreciate any links. Since I'll travel for Mr. Clue I don't see why a little more travel for another permanent piece of art would hurt if there's a more appealing artist farther away from me. I don't want to settle for mediocre when I can get the best even if it means costing me more/being on a waiting list for a couple years.
Oh, found some Luna moth tattoos but none really appeal quality-wise. Probably lack of background. Now I feel less original, haha, but I don't care:

| i personally like the first one but you should have some more going up your ribs and they get smaller in size. or start small from your hips and gradually get bigger towards your ribs. dont forget to update us with pics once you get it done! |
