im thinking of getting a horse shoe tattooe don my elbow. any suggestions on placement or how its facing......input app.

Basic rule of thumb : Facing up = good luck, facing down = bad luck

is that the same with koi fish? swimming upwards is goodluck, and down bad?

Generally, solely because the story of the Koi involves swimming up a waterfall to become a dragon. That rule, though, like any other rule really, can take a backseat to aesthtic value and flow/fit on the body

That's the great thing about tattooing though, there really are no rules. Traditions yeah, really nothing is off limits.

Well, if that is true in tattooing, than it is true in all aspects of life, which I think makes it false. "Rules" is probably open to interpretation.
