So I want to get my first Tattoo. I just turned 18 a month ago and am rebelling against my parents haha. I already know what i want and where.. I want a rose on my hip bone area (like where ur underwear line is) and i also want a small star on the side of my wrist in yellow so you don't really know its there but it is Wink

Anywho, how is the pain associated with tattooing? And then what about healing? I know you're supposed to keep it moist with lotion or something, but is scabbing supposed to happen? How long does it take to heal?

Pretty much, i need to get the courage to get it done and i'm not quite sure how everything works.. If you guys could PLEASE tell me it'd be great.

Thanks! Cool

Pain is different for every person, However a tattoo pain is rarely a "Oh my fucking God" pain, it is more of an irritating pain, like a sunburn. It hurts but is not unbearable. Since this isyour first tattoo. Every artist has their own methodof healing procedures they want you to follow, and though different they are all basicly correct. The #1 rule, is to keep it clean. Wash your hands then your tattoo, with a mild liquid antibacterial. AT LEAST 3 times per day. Some will recommend a lotion, some an ointment. Keep it out of the sun and tanning beds while it heals. Some tattoos scab, general they peel like an onion skin though (or a sunburn) as long as they are cared for. Either way, you shouldn't pick and let nature run it's course. Healing time varies 1-4 weeks. The cleaner it's kept the faster it heals. Especially if you go to a reputable artist.

but what about irritating the tattoo. Not on purpose, but i want to get it done on the hip area, and thats where like the belt of jeans sits too... putting a gauze pad over the tattoo could work, but is healing going to be harder/longer if somethings constantly rubbing against it? Or should I just switch to sweat pants for a few weeks haha

It will definitly irritate it. Get some cozies, or looser fitting jeans while it heals.. The better you treat it the first week, the less you have to mess with it later.

Congrats on the new tat. One word of advise is to never cover it up with anything like gauze, or anything that will stick to it because it will pull off the color. You will loose color for the first few days, but you should not have any chunks falling off it, and if so, LEAVE IT :) Just do everything that your artist tells you and you will be fine...Enjoy...

I never suggest rebandaging a tattoo once you remove the original bandage. Try to wear something loose and comfortable. If anything should happen to stick to the tattoo (such as clothing) wet it with a bit of water and work it off slowly. Don't just pull, that can take out color.

All right, so I just got my first tattoo on the 24th of March and so I feel like I am pretty fresh as far as any concerns you may have, considering I had them myself just a few weeks ago.
I knew I always wanted tattoos growing up, tattoos that meant something. My mother has 2, my father has 1, but my dad's rule was always that I couldn't get a tattoo unless I was "financially independent."
Then, that Monday morning I was getting ready to go shopping with some girlfriends and thought, "Dudeeee, I should get a tattoo today." So I did.
I went to visit my dad at work and talked to him in a very professional manner so that he would allow me to get one - I wanted the consent from both of my parents instead of having to deal with hiding it from them.
He went from no...to yes. And my mom said yes right away.
And there you have it.
I ended up getting some Roman numerals on the inside of my right ankle, under the bone, that mean something very important to me.
The best advice I can give to you is that you should talk to your parents about it (I have only been 18 for a few months, so I do happen to know what you mean by wanting to rebel though).
You will want your parents to share this experience with you.
Any other questions, let me know. I also found it to be better that this was a spontaneous commitment because then I wouldn't have to sit and worry about it..haha.

Lovey, why did you resurrect a thread from 3 years ago? TongueTwister is now 21 and I hope the first tattoo has healed.

Holy shit. Check the dates before you post. Pretty sure the OP already got her tats and won't really have any questions for you. This thread was dead over 3 years ago.
