^ a month??? it will be healed in like 10 days. And the ocean will be worse because it has salt and shrinks your skin which could fuck up a new tattoo more than a pool

Five days??? Are you kidding?
We do it all the time... 10 days is best but if you take care of the tattoo it'll never scab and surfing and swimming is fine after 5-6 days. Have several hours of ink and my ten plus year old tattoos look better then most people two year old tattoos.
NO ill damage towards the tattoos at all.
You have to use common since, if your sh-t is scabbed up, then don't go in the water. If it's just peeling or flaking like normal then no worries.

You're NOT supposed to scab up...that's the whole point.

So, it seems like there are a lot of conflicting pieces of advice here. Basically, scab=no swimming, no scab=ok to swim?

Thanks.

You still need to wait a little while, you can't go swimming two days after getting work done.

You don't have to wait for 10 days to go swimming unless your scabbing up...
After 5 days of NORMAL healing the skin/tattoo is fine for a little swim.

Chocodog -

I respect your reluctance to give up, even for a little while, your one form of comfort. You say you are in pain when you go without swimming. But tattooing itself is painful. It is pain that we endure because it is something that we really want. It may not seem fair that your pain should last longer than most of ours, but if you really want this tattoo, really really want it, then taking a few weeks off from swimming will be worth it for you. It's better than denying yourself your dreams and forever regretting the road not travelled.
