unfortunately i would have to agree with NYGuy... if your doing it without parental consent for starters... you probably shouldnt be doing it at ALL... Secondly, people under 18 rarely know what they want in life, never mind what kind of a tattoo they want... and chances are if you are under 18 and had no parental consent, then you did not go see a reputable artist either, and went to some dive shop or out of some guys basement.... NOT ADVISED AT ALL

Well folks...guess I'm going to disagree a bit...My daughter who is 15 has a tattoo...with my consent...She actually came up with the design herself which is a tribute to her grandmother who died 2 years ago.

I would say this...getting a tattoo under 18 without any parental guidance is not suggested...But if there is guidance...I don't see a problem with it...

Since I have over 15 tats myself...I was able to give her some guidance...LOL...we talked alot about it...then went ahead with it...came out great.

Personally, I want to win the big battles with my kids...drugs and alcohol...
Fortunately or unfortunately for them...I have a Depression Era moral and value system from my parents....

I would agree with the parental consent factor of it, If you have your parents consent to get one than cool, but if you get it on your own, than I think its stupid, cause if I was an artist I wouldn't want some pissed off parents after me...

I have an 11 year old and a 9 year old and if either one would ever step foot in my house with a tattoo in the next ohhh 7-10 years without my knowledge, I'd be very upset to say the least.

I'd be upset #1 because they didn't come to me in the first place... I've always taught them that I'm here for them no matter what!

I've taught them that no matter what they do they should NEVER lie even though I'll get mad... I'd be more mad if I caught them lying even if it was pissing down a hole in the wall 2 inches away from a wall receptical outlet! Shocked

As for them getting a tattoo without my consent...

I'd go find the RETARD who did it and tattoo "DUMBASS" on his forehead!
and I'd tell the kid I hope they could look at it for the rest of they're life even if it does suck! I want to be the one with them if they're very persistant and if I like it or not.

As for the youngins on the forum, you are a minor for a reason, we've all been there and did some of that... As sucky as it sounds, ENJOY BEING A KID! Before you know it you'll be an adult and welcomed into the suckiness of being on your own... Can you say JOB, BILLS, KIDS....

I'll hold em down while you tattoo "Dumbass" on em...LOL...but I agree...no artist should tattoo a minor...

I always wanted a tattoo before I was 18 but the rule was "you come home with anything on your body and I'll forget the fact that you came out of mine". That stuck with me as my mom's love was more important to me than the y tattoo I wanted at the time.

The idea I wanted at 15/16 drasitcally changed from what I got at 18 and now what I'm getting at 20 is even more different.

Funny story. It was assumed I would get a tattoo at 18 so coming home with one wasn't a big deal. But 2 weeks later I wanted to get my ears pierced again and I asked my moms permission. Thinking back on it it just seems backwards to me.

Children need guidance in this fucked up world and there's nobody better than their Gardian! I strive to teach them the necessities in life...

CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE TATTOOED!

I got my first tattoo when I was fifteen. I'll never regret it. It's a part of me, and even if I were to dislike the tattoo itself in the future, I'd still love the memory it holds. It will always contain a piece of my childhood in it, and I could never have any feeling other than love and appreciation for it. My second/third tats were received when I was 16/17. I definitely should've put more thought into them, but again, I know I'll never regret them, and once I get them professionally touched up, I'll fall in love with them even more...

Theres nothing wrong if it is WITH parental consent, and its something that the person and their guardians deem is appropriate... If its a kid whos like 15, doesnt wanna tell their parents cuz they know they will be told NO, then it is definitely NOT COOL at all...

I got one with parental consent about four months before my 18th birthday. I love it, I don't think I'll ever regret or dislike it. Even if some day I do, I'll still love it for the experience, it's a part of me and my life in a huge way.

I think it's okay to get tattoos under age with parental permission, but no permission, no tattoo. Just the way it goes.
