Hey everyone,
For my upcoming 21st birthday i would love to have a tattoo that symbolizes the first chapter of my life, something that represents my youth.
So i've been sketching and mixing and this is one of the things i came up with:

It may sound lame to a lot of you, but gaming is a big part of my life, i even have a job as a game critic. I wanted to show of that i'm a gamer in a stylized and nice way so i went with a combination of the Quake and Zelda icons. The three triangles at the centre representing power, courage and wisdom.
Personally i think it looks pretty good but i'd love to know what you guys think of it. I'm still making sketches so this is not a guaranteed finish. I'm also thinking about removing the zelda icon and putting a phoenix or a dragon biting his own tail in the circle part(quake icon)as a symbol of a eternal life to remember those i have lost.
Please let me know what you think. I'd love some pointers on what i can/should improve. I'd love to make my tattoo myself before walking over to a tattoo shop. I want it to be pretty much done all alone by me.
Thanks |

i just wouldn't make it all black... i'd make it like a gradient, or make it look like stone, or something... i don't know. just not all black. _________________

| I think you're going about this wrong, understandable but wrong. First, I think that your design would look like a black blob of crap and I would think you AND the artist could come up with something better to represent your gaming. Allow the artist to have input, they know what will translate to a good tattoo and what will not...assuming you research and go to a good artist. Ditch the attitude that it needs to be fully created by only you before talking to an artist, those usually make for the worst tattoos. |

I totally agree with this, as well as the comments of doing color rather than all black if you end up sticking with your current design. I think you could get something much more interesting and creative with a good artist. After all, they're ARTISTS!
As someone who was involved professionally with the gaming industry (I was a game and install QA tester and later did a lot of checking on legal document inclusion, etc for Sierra OnLine/Vivendi-Universal) but is not a gamer, I always kinda roll my eyes at literal translations like that. Maybe I am burnt out on games because I hated the job but that is just my reaction - since you asked! But if you love it my opinion is irrelevant.
Happy Birthday! |

BUT they're not ALL artists. Learn enough about tattoo art to be able to tell who is just a tattooer, and who really is an artist. |

Sound advice. Most of us have come up with an idea that ends up as a drawing that looks cool in our own eyes. Then u give it to a real artist and they come up with something a million times better. Just try it I wouldnt settle on your own drawing just yet. |

| I fully agree about the tattoo artist part and that he'd have the final say obviously. But i just find great joy in drawing sketches and would like the base to come from my hand, is that so weird? It goes on my body, i want the base to be created by my hand. |

you are always the base. your idea is the platform that the artist works from. i HAD to draw my first one as well, and i've drawn alot of them, but the artist has tweeked it and we worked together to not only make it a tattooable design, but a beautiful design. _________________

think of it as if you had a killer idea for a game figure...........you could draw your thought out to the best of your ability...........
but waht would make a better graphic figure ?? your art or that of a pro that took your crude drawing and improved upon it...........
personally, not being a gamer, if i saw that tattoo........
i would see a chinese sun guy symbol, with a fu-man-chu, a nail thru his chin, an a radioactive logo on his forehead,, and say what the fuck is that all about (in my head only, because i really would not want to listen to you talk about the meaning) _________________ white by birth ,,,, trash by choice |
