i'm looking for some good software for ripping DVDs......
DivX format preferable........... i'm not against paying for it unless something free out there is better
i've spent an hour reviewing stuff on the web, but need some firsthand experience from trusted sources

I use AnyDVD and CloneDVD, both by Slysoft. I definitely recommend AnyDVD for ripping (seems to work perfectly, 90% of the time... which is the best I've found to date). CloneDVD is more for burning the ripped to DVD to a disc. Both programs are fairly cheap.

Not sure if it does DivX. I don't see why it wouldn't, I just haven't ripped to that format before.

after you rip the dvd to your hard drive, what program do you use to view it ??
the only reason i asked about divx was because that is the format the i get when a friend of mine gives me moveies that the has ripped...

| I actually rip the movie to files that can be burned (.vob, etc.), then I burn them with CloneDVD and watch them in my DVD player. |

thanks,
i just downloaded CloneDVD & ANy DVD and been figuring it out,,,,,after doing a little more research, i found out that i needed to download CloneDVDmobile to be able to convert the files that CloneDVD makes into something that will play on the computer from the harddrive..........
i am currently converting the the files to AVI,,,, i wanted to convert to DivX (dno't ask me why except that that is all i know to say )
edit: LOL i just found out the it is Xvid and DivX is a program that plays videos....i am getting totally confused..... 
i've got about 2 minutes to go, and then i will see if i can open the file to watch the movie....
i also just downloaded #1 DVD ripper from Apollo Multimedis.......

i'mstill workingfrom free downloads and when.if i figure out what i want, i'll pony up the $$
it appears that all of these companies are from the UK,,,,,,,,i guess to get around US copyright laws ..

looks like CloneDVDmobile is a winner..........i haven't watch the movie all the way thru on the computer ( it is an AVI file that i am using DivX PLus PLayer to view) so i don't know if there are any hiccups with the playback.....
but so far so good......
if everything works OK and i do this a couple more time in the 21 day free trial, i will probably just buy it..... i want to see what my buddy uses (not you buddy  ) before i make my decision....
thanks for the input..........if anyone else has any suggestions please respond before i throw money at this

what is the purpose of the rip. Are you using it to burn to disk for your DVD player or what. If if you give me a few days Ill do some research for ya. I dont watch shit on my DVD player so I dont use anything myself at the moment. I can find out a few (probably free) programs if you give me a day or two.
Im sure I can find something cracked for you too.... Ill research the two listed for cracked versions in a minute.

Just looked, dont pay for either. I can get you a cracked version... took me about 45 seconds lol... as long as you know how to torrent.

i'm using it to copy DVDs that are copyrighted, protected and that i don't own
i use torrent streams to watch NFL games that ain't on our local stations, i am not into football that much so i'm not about to pay for the NFL package on direct TV, but i am playing in a $$$ suicide pool and like to watch the games that are in play for our team........
post up what you find......i'm not against cracked software but i run a malware scanner that pretty much blocks most of those kinds of sites..............
i picked up some bad malware in the past from cruisin in places that i knew better about.... so i bought malwarebytes becasue it saved my ass by finding and getting rid of it, and to stop me from doing stupid shit like that again.........
watching my computer slowly die from teh aids sucked..............
