My daughter is going to be born in march. Her name is mersadee which means "mercy". I would like to get a tattoo from something of her name. The symbol for mercy is a pelician. That doesn't seem very cool. Can somebody help me?

A pelican could be very cool, especially since it's not an overdone design.

The pelican sounds awesome but the spelling of that name is horrible. I googled it and apparently people actually do use that spelling for some reason but IMO it should be outlawed >_>. A lifetime of having to spell it out for people... *shudder*. It just kind of comes off as a ghetto name.

Back in topic though, go with a pelican. "symbols" and text tend to be some if the most boring, unappealing tattoos IMO. You don't need to literally spell things out for people. A great image tells so much more.

Oh I found one plus to that name - she can go by Sadee. Still spelled silly but it's better. And yeah, I know it's not my business but I am bored so there you are :). And get a pelican.

It's true - it's not so fun to go through your whole life having to spell your name a million times for every person you meet or every order you have to place on the phone. My wife and I purposely avoided putting our kids through that.

Ya because everybodies name should be spelled the same. There is nothing wrong with beinga little different.

I asked for ideas not a lecture on why we shouldn't be different in naming our child.

While it is true that you did not come here for advice on what to name your child, I think a lot of people just say "OH WHAT A GREAT NAME IDEA" and pander to their pregnant friends instead of saying stuff like "don't you think that name will saddle your child with an unnecessary burden in life?". Why do you need to be "different" in naming your child? Will that make your kid more special? Of course not. Your kid's natural talents and interests will make her special, not a "unique" spelling of a name that she will have to correct the spelling and pronunciation of over and over throughout her entire life wondering why her parents had to be "different" and couldn't just name her something like Jessica. There's a reason certain names aren't popular - it's because they just aren't very good names or they aren't logical variations in spelling. Just food for thought, since this is a public forum and all, and your friends are surely too nice to say anything.

this pelican is pretty awesome.

Seriously, OP, a pelican is SO much better than what the average person would probably otherwise get- "Mersadee, 3-??-12" with a cross or something. PELICAN !!! :)

BTW the name Mersadee sounds like a stripper or hooker but as long as you and your wife are happy who gives a shit what your kid thinks.

In Lousiana, the pelican is the state bird - and I've seen some awesome pelican tattoos done here.
