When I am an old man I shall wear tattoos.
With pale fish-belly skin which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on beer and video games
And camo pants, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m buzzy
And guzzle down bottles from hotel fridges and alarm my wife
And bang my cane along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in wife-beaters in the rain
And urinate on the flowers in other people’s gardens
And spit expletives.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear tattoos.

I was motivated by a photo I saw of three old heavily-tattooed dudes without their shirts on, and the old question of "how are all those tattoos going to look when you're old?"
So I wrote a parody of the old "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple."
Just dashed it off quickly, so I probably could have done a better job with it, but it is what it is - a quick chuckle. |
