My bf got a tattoo on his wrist in July or so. It seemed to have healed at first. But now, 6 months later, his tattoo is all welted up. It doesn't look infected or anything, just extremely raised and gross. Does anyone have an idea of what this could be or what to do?

Photos would help. Sounds extremely unusual. At 6 months out, the tattoo should be totally healed. Very odd especially because you said it seemed to have healed. My guess would be bacterial infection such as MRSA. He should go to a doctor asap. That is not normal.

"gross-looking" is a pretty vague and subjective descriptor. Wait until she posts a pic before you start freaking her out with suggestions that it is MRSA.

I've definitely heard that it's common to have some places in a tattoo become slightly raised with humidity/heat/whatever. And I've got a couple of individual lines on my tattoo that are just raised all the time, and they've been that way since I got it. Doesn't really sound like what you're describing though.

Like everybody else said...post a pic.

He's probably going to lose his hand. No worries he has a back up

Hard to say without pics, but my best guess would be an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can happen right away or 10 years down the road.

like other have said, it's hard to say without pics. I have heard that some pigments, like red, react with the sun. Long term exposure can cause the areas of red to "welt" up and appear infected.
