My husband had a friend with this fear. He passed out when his ol lady came after him with a needle to remove a splinter. They didn't wake him up till she got it out and he has no tattoos, everyone laughed at him, he's in his 30's maybe 40's now. My son who was young at the time had a fear of needles but his fear has dwindle over the years. I can't see your buddy gettin a tattoo as long as he has his fear of the actual needle and the pain that goes along with the needle. I can't see an artist completing the job if he faints. I don't think your friend will be able to do it or the artist for that matter if he faints like my husbands friend when he sees a needle. Just my opinion.

If he's serious, introduce him to a needle, but don't tell him it doesn't hurt! Twisted Evil

I have really bad needle phobia. I've also had about 30 hours total of tattoo work done over the years. For me it's totally different getting a tattoo as opposed to getting a needle, I've talked to other people that are the same way. I've passed out cold almost every time I've had to get a blood test or anything, but I've never even come close to passing out from a tattoo. Tell you're friend it's totally different. If I can get a tattoo anyone can Smile

I am in my 30's and have a BIG fear of needles too but getting tattoo's is not the same as a shot...The only way for him to get over it is to suck it up and try it...He doesn't have to watch the artist give the tat he can look at something else.............Good Luck Very Happy

I have a needle phobia as well. Tattoos are WAY different from a shot or having blood drawn. Besides, he doesn't have to watch. I watched a little at first, then got kinda bored and started watching The Wizard of Oz which was up on the computer. I couldn't resist once it went to technicolor, yanno? Very Happy

*laughs* Oh yes, Wizard of Oz is very distracting.

I'm not really afraid of needles or any sharp things, unless their near my eyes, so I really don't have to worry about it. The thing is that all this talk makes me want to go after my ex with a needle, he was scared to death of them... *evil laughter*

all this talk about needle phobias and peoples fear of them.

I've yet to meet one single person who goes, "Yay I'm going to the Dr. today and that sombich is gonna GIVE ME A SHOT AND TAKE SOME BLOOD!!! YEAHH!!!"

Noone likes needles or getting an injection. *ok, maybe herion users, but they got enough probs* So basically 'most' people have a 'needle phobia'

getting a tattoo is entirely different.

Besides it's not really the needle that hurts *at the Dr.s* it's usually the pressure from what they're injecting that actually hurts.

Tattoos aren't for everyone. Why convince him of anything?
