| You don't practice on anything. You learn properly, so there is no need to practice. If you have an excuse as to why you can't do it properly, it isn't for you. You can scribble all over everything you get your hands on, and it will not prepare you for much of anything having to do with working on humans. |

Just to let you know, without an apprenticeship it might take anywhere from 3 to 4 times as long to reach quality status when learning on your own... if you ever reach that level.
2 good years as an apprentice might be 7 or 8 years on your own, more if you're really convinced you have what it takes and think you already know it all. Good luck, have patience... and hope no angry clients gut you along the way for f*cking up their skin.
Oh, even when you do reach quality status you might have a hell of a time getting to work in a decent shop because you werent' apprenticed. _________________ ~Stacey Sharp

Yea, the guys from "Ink MasterZ" thought they were producing quality work, too. They were so convinced, that they flooded every tattoo forum on the internet with ads, just like the one posted here. At this point they have recieved SO MUCH negative feedback about their "Quality work" that they have shut down their guestbook. They have to constantly remove negative (but accurate) comments about their "quality work" from their blog. It is sub standard work (at best). One dimentional garbage that no one should ever have their skin polluted with. And they were actually convinced it was quality work.
Out of the millions of times I have heard someone tell me they will learn on their own and produce quality work, only a couple have pulled it off. Those people struggled unnecessarily, and would council you against doing it that way. The ten years you spend trying to stumble across BASIC info could have been spent on far better things.
But you probably know it all....that's why you are here asking what to practice on.
What could any of us tattooists possibly know about tattooing?? |

Give the poor guy a break....sheesh all he was asking is for some "expert" advice from "expert" tattooists that might want to share there knowlege so as to prevent him from ruinin peoples skin. If you dont have any suggestions only critisism then just leave him be.
I am learning to tattoo and I am waiting for an appretiship spot at my local shop but in the meanwhile I was hoping to get in some practice so as I can get some feel for the weight of my machines. Its not like we will be hurting the poor fruit/pig skin or whatever it is that is best for tattooing.
You really need to chill out a little.
Now if anyone is really interested in offering real advice on whats good to practice with your support is greatly appreciated.
Note: I know my spelling is bad LOL. |

im shocked a probie poster decided to troll through the archives and manages to find a subject he can relate to....unfortunately the poster either failed to read the responses or ignored them.
scratchers are not well liked around here. if the do it yourself moto is the one you are following i suggest you look for assistance elsewhere, the only advice/encouragement you will get at et is to trash the home kit and find an apprentenceship. well taught tattooists produce quality work not infected flesh. |
