Im about to get my first tat. Its on the underside of the wrist and Im concerned about hygene at work especially the first two days. I would like to leave the bandage for upto 48 hours, is this acceptable? I could remove, wash, put on cream and then replace bandage. Is there any problem with leaving a bandage on for this long..
Thanks |

Your artist will tell you how to heal your tattoo.
You can use the method they tell you to or you can read around some forums and try an alternate method. Lots of people heal their tattoos differently. Its all about finding the one that works for you. _________________ People hear what they see - Oddisee |

Thanks
I will ask my artist but just fancied some other comments/opinions before the event. Its just that I would feel happier having it totally covered as its on wrist, a fairly exposed area.
Im getting a plain Christian Cross, still toying around with designs, I want ultra simple but not sure whether to get it totally filled in or just ouline with bare skin inside - - - |

If it was me, and I was working in like a grease kitchen or sewage plant or something, and it was more than like 36 hours later, and you cant just wear a long sleeve shirt, I would wash it and let it air dry, then use something light like aquaphor. I'd let the aquaphor absorb for 10 minutes, then wipe off any residue, then when it feels dry, I would wrap some gauze on it, then wrap it with whatever. I'd make sure its really dry before you put the gauze on.. I always just cover it with a shirt or whatever. _________________

| Thanks... yes its the before 36 hours bit that Im worried about, most folks seem to say take bandage off a few hours after the work. I would feel better with it covered longer. Based on your suggestion I could make sure its clean and then put breathable guaze bandage over for 36 hours plus long sleeve shirt to cover. Would rather avoid comments like '' hey what did you do to your wrist?'' hahhaha. |

Yeah, and not one bandage on for 36 hours straight. I assume sometimes you can take it off, wash, let it dry for a few, and apply a clean bandage, right? The more time you can keep it uncovered, the better, but cover it when you need to.
Also, Just FYI, the tattoo community is gonna think you're a douche for getting your first and only tattoo on your wrist, but I know that's cool with the kids these days.. Just my $.02 _________________

Mostly because a tattoo is for you and no one else. The wrist is by far the most visible, non extreme (face, hands, neck) place to get a tattoo.
To me it means you did it for yourself, and that is fine. You also did it to look cool and prove that you are cool to others, which make you a douche. _________________ People hear what they see - Oddisee |

PS
I have learned that the inside of the wrist is the traditional place where Coptic Christians had thier cross, I had a dream that I had a cross tat in that position and emmediatly looked it up to find the above info.... |

Do what you need to do.
Not everyone will see the placement as some do. |
