Hey everyone. In about a week I'm going in to have my first tattoo done. I'm planning on getting something like this:
But for now, I'm just going to have the bass clef (bottom half) done.
I'm going to have it done around my forearm, close to where the arm bends. It will be fairly easily concealable, should I ever go for a job interview that is not cool with tattoos. I will have the staff (5 lines) wrap around my arm. I'll get the clef on the bottom of my arm, so if someone was looking at the top of my arm, it would just look like stripes.
The reason for this is that I play a lot of music, mostly on bass instruments, and I often find myself coming up with lines or melodies that I want to remember. Having a tattoo like this will give me a place to write these ideas down without having to scramble for paper and write down a messy staff. This, in addition to my love of music give the tattoo a lot of meaning to me and I'm pretty dead-set on having it done.
In the future, depending on how much I like it, I'll likely finish it, by adding the treble (top) section, or having a treble clef on my other arm, and have a melody that harmonizes between both arms.
I've had suggestions on artists from a former tattoo artist, and he seems to be really impressed with them. I'm going to do everything I can to find the best artist possible, despite the fact that it is a very simple idea.
Since I'm pretty dead-set on having this done, I wont ask for opinions, but feel free to share yours. I mostly made this thread wondering what exactly I should expect when I go to get it done. |

You should expect to regret getting this tattoo and will start saving for laser treatments in the very near future. Sorry, this is a terrible idea. If you want a place to write your music, carry some paper.

i think someone posted something similar to that, that they had done, on here, which wasn't half bad,,,,,, but it was only the treble, contoured, so that it flowed with the part of the body it was on, and actually had notes in it to some song..... _________________ white by birth ,,,, trash by choice |

| I'm getting my first tattoo this month, honestly I don't think tattoos that consist of single lines (unless combined to form a complex design) look that great, especially in the long run. I don't want to be mean, I personally don't enjoy the appearance of quotes or lines. |

May turn out great. I like the idea of you being able to jot down a tune (or melody or whatever). I have a friend that has a Labyrinth maze tattoo and it kinda a bar trick.
But, I worry about the straight lines. Ask your artist for the best placement and how you want to hold your arm when you are composing a new song. |
