| Hey I just turned 18 and I though I should start drawing a sleeve. What should be my first step to designing it? |

take a deep breath, count to 3, and then tell us why you want your first tattoo to be a sleeve...... _________________ white by birth ,,,, trash by choice |

| Better yet take your idea to an artist that you select and let them design it. |

| Unless you are a trained tattoo artist, you don't want to be designing a sleeve. Learn about themes and styles. Learn about how to recogize quality art. That should take at least several months. Slow down. |

The first step to designing it is to realize that you don't design anything! Make a list of ideas that you like and think about it for at least 2 years.
You are 18 which means: you don't have a career, probably don't have several thousand dollars to blow, don't know what you are into or what you'll be into by 30. Take your time. Get a well done tattoo on your upper arm. Think about it for a couple years before you get it. Tattoos at 18 are a bad idea. Take our advice, we've been there young whipersnapper. Spend your time chasing girls, educating yourself, and making money. |

Damn Jimi, I didn't know you were so wise.
In regards to the tattoo, if you REALLY feel the need to get one do what the others have suggested. Especially what Jimi said, starting with a well done upper arm tattoo. Then over the years, start adding to it and moving down your arm. You'll get the sleeve eventually.
And yes, a quality sleeve from a great artist will cost you thousands of dollars. Just FYI. |

Wrong! Danglez, What is best in life?
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women

A sleeve is a big thing !
Take your time to decide what to get, be as close to 100% as you can to thinking that you wont regret it.
Well, it's good to get something meaningful,I think it's less likely that people regret that then.
Learn about all types of tattoos, my sleeve will be hand poked (I'm slowly getting a full sleeve, I'll do it in 4 in about a year or so), study everything you can about this.
Don't get some cheap crappy tribal sleeve like soooo many have today, they look horrible often
This website could help:

I myself have a portrait of a red rose on one hand, if you are getting a realistic sleeve I totally reccomand him, he does great portraits and realistic pictures.
Be really careful of who does your hand, since sadly you can't just erase the tattoo if you don't like it
I have a simple rule... I dont get a tattoo if it is too cheap then I don't trust the tattooer.. Cause most the tattooers here that are good cost a fortune.
Good luck with your sleeve ! |
