First of all, I'd like to say hi, as this is my first post here Smile

I have been looking to get a tattoo for a year or 2 now, but for special reasons (like many people do, I guess). I'll explain my situation so people willing to help me find the "perfect" design have an idea what I'm looking for (and I'll try keeping it short).

For the past 20 years (I'm 25), I've had a severe phobia of vomiting, and ever since I developed this fear, I've had anxiety, social disorders and panic attacks, also leading to severe depression. I haven't had this constantly, I like to compare it to a mathematical sine graph. Every few years I'd have problems, and then a few years they'd "disappear" and I'd be able to function normally in society. However the older I got, the more time it stuck around and the less time it went away. Now for the last 5 years, it has returned severely and doesn't seem to be going away. (Just in case anyone wonders, I've been in therapy for these problems for longer than I can remember). Now I hope I'm not coming over like I have the worlds worst problem or anything, that is definitely not my intention, many people suffer a lot more. Anyway.

So what I'm looking for is a small(ish) tattoo design to symbloize these last 20 years. While getting it now and looking at it now might not make me feel much better, I'm hoping in a few years I'll be a lot better, and be able to look at the tattoo, and look at what I was able to go through and conquer.

So, my problem is, I really have no clue what sort of symbol or design could symbolize my story. I was hoping some people here might have some ideas and be willing to share them with me. As I said, I've been thinking about this for years now and just can't think of something.

As for where I'd like to get it. I was thinking maybe the underside of my wrist (so a pretty small tattoo), or the underarm (so between my wrist and elbow). It's not a tattoo I'm going to "show off", it's most definitely for personal reasons and 100% for me. I've read the sites guides about places to get tattoo's and I understand these 2 places are rather sensitive, so the quicker the tattoo can be done (decently, of course), the better, as I will be rather nervous beforehand.

Thanks for anyone who has taken the time to read my post, and I hope I get some replies with ideas!

Kind Regards,

Nerph

Some thoughts...

-Waaay too much info for a first post.

-I am assuming you are a chick, right? Please god tell me you are a chick.

-You said "It's not a tattoo I'm going to show off", yet you want it on your wrist which is one of the most visible places you can get a tattoo after your face and neck??

-Why get a tattoo that symbolizes a miserable event in your life? Hopefully you are able to put this behind you some day for good. Do you really want a permanent reminder?

Hi,

Sorry if it was too much info, tried to keep it as short as possible to at least give people an idea what I'm looking for.

No, I'm not a chick. Inb4 'man up' etc

I thought the under wrist (for example) would be the best place as it is still visible to me with clothing on, but it's not going to be noticed 100% of the time by other people.

And as I said, it would be a reminder of getting through it. People get tattoos about triumph over cancer, for example (not comparing my problem to cancer, comparing the idea behind the tattoo).

Bottle of Ipecac. You're welcome.

Or bottle of tequilla. That shit always makes me throw up.

Or mushrooms. Lots of people puke on shrooms.

I OD'd on blow once and woke up covered in vomit. Not sure how you could work that into a tattoo, but it was a meaningful moment in my life I overcame and everyday I want to be reminded of that for the rest of my life.

A wrist tattoo is generally a chick tattoo. IMO second only to a tramp stamp. Seriously, don't get it on your wrist. You will look gay. Plus it is super visible 99% of the time. You probabaly don't wear long sleeves 365 days a year and even then long sleeves rarely cover the tattoo.

But mainly it is just a really gay place for a guy to get a tattoo.

I don't think you are going to get any direct ideas on this forum. Feel free to lurk around and see what people here consider good and bad, etc. I would also recommend picking up some tattoo mags and start seeing what interests you.

Alright, thanks for the advice. It doesn't seem this forum is what I was expecting it to be ^^ If I knew I was just going to get trolled to the end of the earth I'd have asked on /b/. Probably would have gotten better replies too (other than yours).

seriously you picked the most helpful post out of all of them. dont get it on your wrist. even if you are already gay... it is girly...
secondly... the problem you are having is that these guys aren't liking your reasoning for getting this tattoo... i honestly, personally, cannot think of a good image to symbolize a fear of vomitting.. so im sorry if i am not much help. but perhaps just a beautiful image that you love can symbolize your life without fear?

Aye, that's why I said I'd have probably gotten better replies on 4chan, other than his reply (so not including his reply). Think you misunderstood me (or I have misunderstood you).

As for the place of the tattoo, I know absolutely nothing about the tattoo scene, so didn't know getting one on the wrist was considered 'girly'. Good to know. Where would it be appropriate to get a small tattoo that isn't considered gay or girly?

As for the design yeah, after 3 years I still can't think of a single thing that could really symbolize it. Was hoping I might strike some luck posting on a tattoo forum.

Haha, well, then I'd have a problem ;D and a funny inkblot tattoo ;D I don't vomit when I get nervous though, so the chances of that happening are quite slim. There is a bigger chance I'd panic ^^

But yes I agree it is a rather personal thing and maybe only I can come up with a symbol design to signify it. Was worth a try posting here though Smile

Uuuhg, seriously guys?! SERIOUSLY?! This is how you help this dude out, for shame!

Dude, seriously this is what you should get. Get a BIG. BAD ASS ANCHOR. You feel anchored down right? Get a gnarly anchor. People here will help you figure out the rest.

When you FINALLY get over this fear, and it's been like ten years and you feel you have broken free from this anchor, get a broken chain tattoo (Arm band) symbolizing you been set free.

Hope this helps.
