My Tattoos (1)

PostPosted: Thu Jul 05, 2012 6:51 pm    Post subject: Help designing my sleeve... Reply with quote

Currently I have one tattoo on my arm. a Cross that I had done for myself that represents the kind of cars that I like(the 'M' in the middle is for Mopar..), and has Hemi pistons.. Since this tattoo, my little brother died in a car accident. We were less than a year apart.. I want to get a least one, maybe a couple tattoos in his memory on the same arm as my cross.. I have a few general ideas, but would like some more input to develop my ideas further..

I want to include:
1."Psalsms 23:4"
2. at least one sort of disguised pot leaf(I dont really smoke, but this is the main thing that I will remember my brother for..huge pothead.)
3. More automotive related tattoos, like maybe a spark plug or something..also, the years of all of the old cars that I have owned.. like "'67, '73, '74" somewhow addded in.
4. possibly a portrait of my little brother
5. maybe included in this tattoo, or maybe a separate one later on I want a SF 49er's tattoo.. Probably something saying "Faithful, since 1991" in the same font that the official Faithful logo is in..
6. possibly this quote, "gone but never forgotten"
7. Maybe include my brothers birth/death dates
8. something sort of small that represents my 2 grandparents who have also passed away in the past year. (maybe like a little heart with both of my grandparents initials in it?) something small but meaningful like that..

I think I included everything..I've been planning this tattoo since almost a year ago when he died..Its time to get it. And my sister is visiting from out of state in 3 weeks, so were going to go get our memorial tattoos together. I want to turn the current cross that I have in this picture into a half sleeve all the way down to my elbow, and I dont care how high onto my shoulder(and maybe chest), that it goes.. If it doesn't work out on this arm, then I dont mind going to my other arm for this whole mural..I sort of wanted to leave one arm free for future tattoos down the road though..

Thanks in advance for the help! and sorry for the LONG post..

Holy shit man. 100lbs of shit in a 5lb sack. You're gonna gave a confusing terrible looking mess on your arm. you don't have to be so literal with symbolism. Nix bible verses, nix birth and death dates. You don't need to focus on death or "gone but not forgotten" and shit. People assume a tribute tattoo is for someone dead. Work off what you have. Add some flowers and a banner that says "bro" or something. If you try to make this so "explanatory", its gonna be a mess. The 49's logo = terrible idea. Not to be a dick, but you need to re-think this whole thing. Go look at some world class artists and rethink your idea. You're not gonna see a peice from a world class artist that has dates and bible verses and car years and initials and portraits and ... Think of something cooler.

As a 2 decade stoner, but someone who is sensible enough not to get a pot leaf tattooed on me, I've often thought about getting some coins on my pirate arm that have Braunstein(at least that's what we've always called him, the dude from the ZigZag package) as the face on them.

Or a banner that says "smoke em" or "Lite 'em up". both tribute to stoner brother, and muscle car related...

As a dude that went for symbols as well. And believing art can go fuck itself, I like it. Actually, I like a lot. I am not being sarcastic at all here. It's really really creative. If I were you I'd be proud to wear that. You wont find any fans of symbols here, people here just want to see pretty pictures of Koi fish butt fucking each other with stars coming out. This type of imagery won't do anything for them. This place is filled with a bunch of hipsters who think they everything.

Dear Twizted,

Without art, you wouldn't have any ink in the first place. Tattoos are art on skin. Unfortunately there are people like you who don't have any appreciation for that.

Sincerely,
Pwn1n

To the OP,

If your really interested in getting all of that done on your arm, it's going to take more than one sitting and a lot of money. So you have two options.

1. Consolidate your ideas into one idea that incorporates the most important thing about your brother and grandparents. (If this is a memorial tattoo then forget about the car stuff that YOU want. Unless your brother was into that too.)

2. If you want ALL/MOST of those things you listed, take your list of ideas to an artist in your area and have them draw up a half sleeve for you that incorporates those ideas. (You'll have to pay a down payment before they will begin working on the sleeve and it will take them a while just to get all of those things you mentioned incorporate into the tattoo. If you go this route, I would take your ideas to an artist soon so they can complete it before your sister gets into town.)

P.S. Please ask if anyone here knows good artists in your area and research online. Then before you take it in, post a link to their portfolio so we can tell you if they do quality work.

P.P.S A very talented/popular artist will probably not have an opening within 3 weeks.

Pay close attention to the recommendation of the 'tattooist' at the very end of the vid.

Represent the leaf! Very Happy Get what you want of course, but it sounds a bit busy to me.

Other pothead imagery:
4:20
or
how about some nice smoke for a background?
and the classic
Bob Marley

Guess I wasn't clear when I said that I dont want EVERYTHING that I listed into one tattoo..just some ideas that I have that I want to incorporate a few into it..

I'm really leaning towards a dark valley with like a grim reaper on top of a hill..and rays of light coming through.. the gist of what I am saying is "I dont fear the reaper" because I got my bro, and god looking after me..
As for the leaf, itd just be hidden, maybe even partially covered by other filler or something.. I do like the lite em up thing though..but just not that big on getting words..would rather imagery, and actual art.. I might 4:20 somehow though, as this is the actual TOD on his hospital bed as well..

In the original post I was just sort of saying everything on my mind...Not everything that I actually wanted to include..

here is a link to the portfolio of the artist that is in the process of drawing up a rough idea of what I want..He really understood my idea when I explained it in person, and seems like he's going to take my idea and do good with it.. http://www.wild-bills.com/nate/nate_index.html
As for the link that someone posted to a video, the link wasn't working, but I don't care. As I'm sure it is just you guys being big bad asses talking shit over the internet..

Yikes, your tattoo artist is not good. Look elsewhere.

Do you really think this is good work? If so, there may be no hope for you...

I did not say it was good work.. My main thing is that I am paying for a basic drawing that will give me more of an idea at this time..and with such a small art deposit, I dont mind it. Gives me something to bring to a better artist
