Hello all 3 months ago I got a phoenix tattoo and i'm pretty satisfied with it even though it looks kinda small(looks better in real life)
Now looking at it, I want to turn this tattoo into a quarter sleeve but idk what to get
Ive thought about getting a "Starry Night" type of background around the phoenix but im not sure
any ideas, suggestions, please
all is appreciated

I don't think it's bad.
It could be better, and an expansion could help. An expansion and enhancement could be really good.
Maybe a 2nd phoenix? |

Yeah maybe some background would help. Typically more fire and shit with a phoenix. but I would say maybe moving on to a different tattooist would be the best thing for it.

thanks bro il definitely consider the fire and DEFINITELY going to a new artist
but would you just add the fire around it up to a quarter sleeve and around the wings? just the fire or anything else?

You got two options. The choice is up to you.
If you hate it, save up for laser sessions hit it with 7. Than get a cover up. Or going with 12 sessions for complete removal. Up to you.
The second option. Get a touch up from a MUCH MUCH better artist. One that can make MANY corrections and maybe change the overall concept around. The best one in your state. Pay 200 dollars an hour, it's on you for the rest of your life its worth it. And than add pieces around it that are the same theme that enhance the original tattoo.
The problem with the tattoo for me is it's hard to tell wtf is going on. Concept definitely needs to be reworked if you keep it. |

its not horrible but its not great either. i would suggest considering a new artist for the background. other than that i wouldn't do fire because its just going to blend in with the pheonix you already have. do some background that's going to make it pop instead. really if you got an artist to add some more shading into this piece it would give it alot more depth.

thanks so much for the advice guys, but what would you specifically add in the background besides fire? cause right now im not really caring for the meaning of the tattoo i just want it to look good
*I'm fine with the phoenix tattoo, I just need suggestions on what to do to make it pop out more(background and stuff) |

| like mentioned its not that great but its not super bad either. the problem with the tattoo is that it is kinda flat and muddy and adding background wont help it pop. you need a better artist to go over it to add depth and separation. tho background wouldnt hurt it (by a different artist). |

You need another tattoo. This is another example of not getting a tattoo to fit your arm. Adding "background" to a few feathers would make no sense. You need to add more subject matter. Add a dragon or another japanese inspired creature. Then clouds, smoke, wind as your filler/background. I would have a different guy do it. Reoutline a lot of the bird.
