Hi, I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while, does anyone know how common it is to get aids from the tattoo equipment? I have heard some stories about this, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

There has never been one incident of AIDS being transmitted by professional tattooing.

The CDC has no doccumented cases of HIV or AIDS being transmitted from tattooer to client through cross contamination.

Although as was stated the CDC has not documented 1 case of Aids that can be attributed to a Tattoo care should still be taken. I would suggest that before you get tattooed you make sure the shop maintains sanitary conditions. Make sure the needles are new and are steralized as well as the tubes being steralized. There is an indicator box on the steril packaging that will indicate this. In my shop we always explain this to the client and show them the indicator as well as explaining all the precautions that we have taken to ensure their health. This only takes a few minutes and puts the client at ease. If the tattooist is not wiling to explain the steps he has taken to ensure your safety I would suggest you go somewhere else for your tattoo. Beware of the tattooist that can do the job cheaper because he works out of his house because it is almost impossible to maintain sanitary conditions under those circumstances. Also in closing I will say although Aids has not been attributed to a tattoo as of yet there are many dieseases and ailments that have been.
