Or are they so main stream now that no one thinks twice about it?

They are mainstream enough that most people have seen them and accept that they have become more mainstream, but not everyone looks at them as "acceptable".
My work has no issues with tattoos, several of the "younger people" have tattoos and are never asked to cover them up. A couple of peopl have nose piercings and that is also not a problem. I also work in a very relaxed dress code, especially for an office, where I can and have, shown up in jeans, a t-shirt and flip flops.
I wouldn't do it on a business trip though, knowing that not everybody is as liberal and accepting as my job headquarters.

I think it all depends on where you get your tattoo, what the tattoo is and where you live. Mine are on my upper arm so you can't see them unless i wear a shirt with no sleeves. When my parents saw them for the first time they couldn't believe it, they think i'm going through a mid-life crisis and i'm only 32!!

My daughter, on the other hand, tells all her friends and everyone we meet that her dad got a tattoo for her. I have to show everyone any time we go any where! She thinks it's the coolest thing in the world. My son thinks the same about the one I got for him.

I'm an okie (in the bible belt) so it's very mixed here. Some people don't care, some people think they are cool and the holy rollers think you're going to hell!! But you know what, they can all kiss my azz cause i got them for my kids and i could give a rats azz what anyone else thinks, bluntly put Smile

all my peers have given me great compliments about my tattoo and all accept it since I'm not the first in my grade to get one. I think the shock of it all was that of all people, I GOT ONE. Razz I'm on the preppy side see...

but so far, nobody's changed the way they think of me..except maybe that they see me as a person brave enough to get a tattoo. LOL I've gotten things like "How long did it take? Did it hurt? Wow you're brave, I could never do that!" and "It suits you. It's fucking gorgeous!".

It all depends on what you have tattooed honestly. A tattoo with a heart and "mom" written in it, will obviously be more acceptable than lets say a grim reaper. I don't think tattoos will ever be completely "accepted", but if they were, honestly don't you think that would take some of the fun out of it, just a little bit? lol.

I actually wish they weren't mainstream. When I got mine 12 years ago they still weren't so popular. Having a large piece on my forearm caused alot of stares. Now I walk the mall or whatever and everyother person has a full sleeve it seems. Nobody even gives them a second glance. The only people that seem to even care are people in my grandfathers generation.

Of course the people think differently of people that have LOTS of tattoos. There is a huge difference between a tattoo enthusiast with several hours of work compared to the person that has a bunch of small tattoos or a few big ones. The guys/gals that only have a few tattoos don't experience this (For obvious reasons). It's main stream enough for the guys/gals to have a few big or small tattoos but the people that have several hours of work ARE still looked at and treated differently.

Tattoos are not really that much of a concern anymore..people rather see ink in people's bodies than jewerly! me personally, i think piercings are hott, but some people are old fashioned and they just get discusted by facial piercings..

I believe society thinks less of people who guage their ears these days. Tattoos are accepted by lots of people now.

I would have to agree with Tattude on this one. I can see a difference in the way people act toward me. Last summer nobody really noticed the few smaller tattoos that I had, maybe just a glance here or a comment there. But, now that I am working on a project, people stare and give me 'looks' alot more than they used too, and as Tattude mentioned people steer their kids away from me because of my tattoos. Especially where I live, when I walk down the hallway of our local mall in shorts it like the parting of the red sea. They just don't get it.

The question is, DO I CARE how people feel about me because of my tattoos?
No

Just like guns. Tattoos don't kill people, people kill people.
