to me getting a tattoo is about the pain....the fine line between pleasure and pain, mind over matter, how far I can push myself, ect. WAY silly I know, but when everything else sucks...its a reminder of how strong I am.

Hi Guys,

I've got two tattoos - so pretty much says it can't have hurt that bad if I went back again!

The pain isn't very intense if you keep breathing and focus on something else. It's more an irritation. Try taking a sharp object and dragging it across your skin while applying quite a bit of pressure - this dragging, pulling sensation is alot like getting a tatto.

I kind of just rushed in and picked any old tattoo, but now wish I'd put more thought into it.

Before you get a tattoo - make sure you do your research and come to terms with the fact that you will have it for life.

Do your homework and look at LOTS of designs till you get one that's perfect for you. to check out an online database of designs paste which you can browse, customise and print out to make sure the artist gets it right - paste this into your browser http://jessetcell.18356.hop.clickbank.net/
I could think of nothing worse than having something forever you aren't 100% happy with.

Also pick the location of your tattoo carefully. While visible body parts look awesome tattood, think about when you are 50, sagging, wrinkly and flabby. (Not a pleasant thought I know) I ended up getting mine on the back of my neck so that I can cover it and it won't affect my career.

All in all, tattoos rock and can really make a statement about who you are and what you belive in - OR what you believed in at one part of your life (which is just as important i think!). If something is important enough to you now to tattoo it on your body, chances are you won't regret it down the track.

Peace out,

etcell

First of all, take your keyboard off of caps lock! (It's that little button just to the left of the "a".)

Second, read the stickies at the top of the topics page. That will answer your questions.

Going to tattoo convention after tattoo convention and talking with NUMEROUS artists about the drunken thing, I have to disagree with you on that point. And anyone else that agrees.

Getting drunk does thin your blood but it's not going to affect the work or the healing process.

It does kill the pain though... lol

I don't think any one of my tats done at a convention where done when I was sober. lol I go there to have a good time meet old/new friends and get poked.

Most artists don't care as long as you’re not annoying or belligerent. If you have a nice buzz, all is well.

I find it hard to believe that all these artists said it didn't matter if you drank before?
For someone who seems to have a lot of coverage this is a pretty neglectful thing to think.
Taking pain killers or alcohol thins your blood.
Therefore you bleed a whole lot more as your blood takes longer to clot, and theres a much higher chance of the ink dropping out.
All the artists I know end up getting annoyed having one guy who always bleeds excessively due to drinking and they are constantly having to wipe down making it harder for them and longer, and they have to work harder to really put the ink in there.
Go in, get done, get sore and take it.
Drink afterwards, alcohol can only be a bad thing when it comes to tattooing.

Drinking and drugs you do not need,
Thinning your blood will make you bleed,
All that tattooing will really go slow,
By the way, my name is Joe Wink

This thread is over 2 years old and resurrected once already. It has served its purpose, let it move on to the other side where it can rest peacefully.
