| You don't need to buy anything to get started. You just find an apprenticeship from a good tattooist, and he/she will fill you in on everything else you need to know. |

| Ive tried to get in touch with the artists here in town but no one seems to give a shit about a beginner unless you already know them personally. I just want to see if i have what it takes to even be an artist. I dont want to pay someone for an apprenticeship if i dont have what it takes. I want to start tatting on fake skin at my house before i go poking around at the tatto parlors. I am jsut looking for a beginners kit or somehting like that so i can get started my self. I do not want to rely on other people to tell me what to do or how to do it. I would love an apprenticeship but i hae to find someone if Vegas to help. BadWolf where do u live, I was born in Reno so i know sumthin about shovelin. Thanks for the input guys, gimme sum more though. THanx Clos |

| The first thing you should do is get your MANDATORY Bloodborne Pathogen training. OSHA (a federal governing organization) mandates that EVERY tattoo artist MUST take a Bloodborne Pathogen training seminar EVERY year. |

Already off to a good start then. You just want a beginners kit(or something like that) so you can get started yourself, and don't want to rely on other people to tell you what to do. Man, what a concept. Noone has ever thought of taking that route. I don't know why I ever wasted my time learning from someone that already knew what they were doing! I mean, wow, the thought of not having the knowledge of how to do something, and not wanting any help of how to do it. I think I should go out and by myself the at home brain surgery for dummies, and really start making the money i deserve!
If you cannot tell, this is sarcasm!
People like you always want to be handed everyting, without even having to pay for it, or at the very least, earn it. Poking around on fake skin, before you go in and try to get an apprenticeship? Do they make you buy a human heart to practice on before they will let you learn how to do a by- pass surgery? NO! They teach you the right way so you don't learn all the wrong ways before you get started. If your not willing to have a mentor teach you, then GOOD LUCK! You will be the one supplying all of us with steady work.....COVER-UP work. My suggestion is to find another hobby, one that doesn't hack up peoples skin, cause you don't wanna learn. |

| There is no such thing as practice. You are either tattooing skin, or you aren't tattooing. With enough proper training, you may end up tattooing properly right from the start. Without the proper training, and equipment, you can't. Simple as that. |

did you try "bad apple"...they may be able to help you out. _________________ I think the most important thing he taught me was that no matter what situation you're in...stay positive. But then again, he raised hogs and look at what happened to them. |

I havent talked to the guys or girls at Bad Apple yet but i have seen their work and it is awesome. Im having trouble getting in touch with anyone that wants to take on apprentice at the moment. I know there are plenty of tattoo shops in Vegas but they pretty much already have the staff their are looking for. I appreciate the info though.

| Are you guys sayin that the only way to learn is to follow in other peoples footsteps? Someone had to start tattooing with no prior knowledge befoer all of us. I understand completely that the best way to learn is to watch and learn on the real thing. unfortunately for me I dont have either of those so im jsut tryin to make dew with what i have. If i had real skin to tat on and someone to teach me then of course i would listen and soak up all i could, but I dont. So im jsut trying to learn on my own since no one here cares about helpin out a beginner. |

The first guy who did a tattoo wasn't working on someone who was potentially infected with Hep C or HIV. They didn't exist. Nor was he putting an entire industry in jeapordy.
You want help, well here it is:
If you don't have the proper training and equipment, DO NOT TATTOO.
That is the only responsible help anyone can or will give you. Your willingness to do otherwise PROVES you are not the type of person who should be involved in an industry where meticulous attention to detail is REQUIRED to keep people safe and to do outstanding work.
Why are you having such a hard time digesting that concept?...it's really a basic elementary concept anyone should be able to grasp.
You said:
"I just want to see if i have what it takes to even be an artist. "
If you are the type to buy a kit and start scratching with no training, then NO...you DO NOT have what it takes to be an artist. Now that that question has been answered for you, I wish you luck in whatever else you decide to get involved with.

I didnt say anythinhg about tattoing anybody until i can. That was like the first thing i said. I am capble of learning and doing things right. I definetly understand the risks and that stuff realted to tattoing. All I want to do is see if i have waht it takes to tattoo. I never said anything about tatttoing until I am considered good enough to do so. Im interested in learning, but not interested in fucking up someones body. read before you write. |
