| I HAVE ABOUT 10 YEARS EXPERIENCE TATTOOING AND AM PROUD TO SAY THAT I AM MOSTLY SELF TAUGHT. CALL ME WHAT YOU WILL, BUT I, BY ANY MEANS AM NOT A SCRATCHER. I TURN OUT QUALITY WORK FROM MY HOME AND NOW HAVE THE RESOURSES FOR OPENING A STUDIO. ALL OF MY DUCKS ARE IN A ROW AS FAR AS LOCATION, ZONING, HEALTH CODES, STERILIZATION PROCEDURES ETC. EXCEPT FOR ONE THING, I WANT TO PUT IN MORE THAN ONE BOOTH. I'M NOT SURE HOW I SHOULD GO ABOUT PAYING OTHER ARTISTS, OR SHOULD THEY PAY ME FOR A SPOT. WHICH WAY IS THE FAIREST AND HOW MUCH IS FAIR? WOULD I BE BETTER OFF GOING SOLO? |

You get 50% of everything he/she gets which doesn't include using your materials... _________________

Yea, but I have trained artists working for me that are capable of making the studio a great deal of money without a great deal of problems. They have their own following, and bring me repeat business. Someone starting out doesn't make 60%. An untrained artist with a kit isn't worth 10%. It is based on many factors, which you may want to take a while and check into.
That "Caps Lock" is the little button to the left on your keyboard. |

| So, quality, clientel, and hassle free. I understand what you're saying, "many factors" are involved. Thanks for the tips, I appreciate any input on this subject, especially about the "Caps Lock" button. I'm glad that y'all have enough time to give so much helpful info on this forum. Thanks! |

I'm still in my apprenticeship and I'm making 20%. To me, that COMPLETELY fair and just. I assumed that I was going to start in at 10. My mentor and I had a discussion right after I tattooed my first honey dew concerning pay, and he told me, straight and direct, that the most I'll ever make working at his shop is 50%. To me, that's great. The money is in no way "bad" and I get to do something that I love, what more can I ask for? _________________ Just a small guy trying to get by... |

| Furthermore, if you don't set the studio up properly, and maintain it meticulously, it wouldn't be worth someone paying you anything to work there. |

Yea...lotsa stuff.
Is this person going to be limited to doing flash, or is he going to be able to produce art on demand? And I aint talking 3rd grade scribbles, but inovative art, which pushes the envelope, and adds something to the industry.
Is he going to be able to do it right now, or keep turning people away until they get disgusted and go elsewhere?
How much someone makes is not something anyone in a forum can tell you. What percentage they make is determined by THEM.
What are they worth? |

| Hey BW,don't know, havent found him/her yet, just trying to get a firm grip on what is a fair "going" rate in the industry. But beleive me, I've been drawing since I was 5 yrs. old (now 33) and I can definately spot talent when I see it. I hear what you're saying and trust me, my parlor is gonna be full of talented "artists" that have a good portfolio and experience to boot because reputation is everything, and this business is what I want to do with the rest of my life! Good lookin out and thanks! |
