I will say before I begin that I am an idiot for this, and deserve whatever happens... if anything.
I got a tattoo on my left shoulder 3 days ago. Took great care of it every day, kept lotion on it, kept it clean, kept it out of the sun. But yesterday I stood beside my car after leaving walmart talking to a friend who'd pulled in next to me. We stood there talking for longer than i intended and when I get in my car I say oh crap... my arm is red. I got sunburn right over my fresh tattoo. It turned out we'd stood there for like 45 minutes or so in the blazing sun.
I'm paranoid as it is so I was really worried. My friends said it would be okay. Well I got up this morning and it had dried out a good bit overnight so I go to put more lotion on it. The top is a black cross made out of throns that looks like it goes through my skin, with red blood coming from where it comes out of the skin.
Well, when I start to rub lotion over the red part, I notice that a flake of red skin with a little bit of the black outline comes off. Most of the cross itself hasn't done that much, but the area that was filled in red has continued to do that all day whenever I would put lotion on it. Flakes of red skin or black outline are rubbing off. Obviously leaving those areas SLIGHTLY faded where the skin has flaked off.
I know that tattoos flake as they heal, but this being my first one, I don't know exactly how they should flake. Is actual colored skin coming off normal? The guy did an amazing job with this tattoo. Hardly bled at all, looks great, and if this is going to ruin it that would be horrible. Please just tell me if this is a normal part of the proccess or if I've messed up here... thanks |

| Flaking and peeling are normal. Just don't pick at it, and don't get it any worse than you did. Chances are, it will be alright. The worst case scenario is you will need a touch up. |

A similar situation happen to a friend of mine when we were in high school and he got his first tattoo. It should be alright. This is typically why tattoo artists tell you to keep fresh tattoos out of direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. _________________ Just a small guy trying to get by... |

| well it's the night after the sunburn, and most of the first layer of skin has already peeled off of the tattoo. Nothing has lost any color except for the red area (the blood), and it only dulled out a TINY bit, I can have it touched up later. As long as nothing else peels, it will be okay. I guess I should keep my fingers crossed? |

I ve once messed up with a fresh tattoo myself, only that I did serious damage to mine in a motorcycle crash, can t have it touched up because I ve got a skin graft on a part of it now. let alone wearing socks or shoes is painful enough
so, I m sure your tattoo will be alright _________________ I never wanted to be different. I just wanted to be me. |
