Some of you may have read my previous post about considering getting a tattoo... but one of my friends recently brought something to my attention and I was just wanting to get some more opinions on it...

I don't have my first ear piercings yet... my friend was suggesting that I should get those done before I even considering getting a tattoo. Her reasoning was "If you can't sit through two lil piercings, then how can you expect to sit through a tattoo?" Which is, I'll admit, good reasoning. But I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about that. My thinking is that piercings go all the way through... the needle in a tat gun only goes 1/16" into the skin.

So if everyone could just post their opinions or advice on this, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

The usual ear piercings, at the bottom of the lobe, don't hurt at all. I mean really, you can't even feel it. I got mine done when I was four and didn't cry or anything. Tattoos hurt, but its a good hurt. And really, its more annoying than painful. I was playing poker on my phone and texting my fiance while I was getting mine and a few other people were doing stuff like that also.

Seriously?... to me its like getting pinched a bunch of times in the same spot. Kinda hurts at first, but you get used to it after the first five minutes or so. My tats are on the front of my shin (right on the bone), completley around my arm (inside too), right below my left armpit (1" below hair line -> 2" above bottom rib), and back. So Ive had some pretty sensitive areas tatooed and I cant complain much at all. If fear is the only thing holding you back, Id say just do it (insert nike swish here).

I would sooner get a thousand tattoos than one piercing. Partly b/c my body rejects them (tried the ears on two seperate ocassions six years apart--belly button lasted all of 2 weeks), but mostly b/c the thought of a needle going through a chunk of me creeps me out. Piercings and shots I can't handle, tattoos are A-OK.

I think that your friend has good intentions but really, a piercing and a tattoo are totally different things.

Do you currently wear clip style earrings to decorate your lobes? If you do and would like a wider range of styles then by all means get your lobes pierced. If, on the other hand, you have no interest whatsoever in wearing earrings...then why bother with it? If you really want the tattoo, the pain is really not that bad for the most part and most people don't die from it. Laughing

Good luck with your decision.
