I have followed the artist's instructions carefully that did a GREAT job on my tattoo. It is a butterfly on my ankle. I have not soaked it in the tub or in the shower. I have cleaned it, with antibacterial soap, using my hand. I have applied antibiotic ointment to it 3 times a day, for the past 4 days, as advised. Tomorrow I am suppose to begin to apply "fragrance-free" lotion to it. It doesn't hurt badly and the swelling has gone down. It's not even red anymore. However, it is still tender and the skin that is colored in with yellow ink is beginning to bubble up (soft bubbles-looks like blisters). I was wondering if it is something I did wrong to cause the tattoo to bubble up? And if there is anything I can do to help the healing process?

By the way, I appreciate any advice given.

To Badwolf~~ Keep on doin' what you are doin'.... Love the attitude!!!! Reminds me of my ex-husband!

But that's another post on another board. Wink

Thanks Badwolf for the advice. I stopped using the ointment yesterday morning. This morning it is still tender to the touch and starting to become red around the edges. I know this may sound stupid, but when I walk and put all of my weight on that leg, it feels as though there is so much pressure that is it going to burst. That can't actually happen, can it? Thanks again for the advice and your time. Confused

I've seen alot of that "bubbling" or "blister" effect on tattoos done with Intenze pigments. I wonder.............

I hate to sound so uneducated, but this really is my first tattoo. I guess I should have done more research on them and the types of inks used? But please if you don't mind me asking...What are Intenze pigments?
Could it possibly be that I am having an allergic reaction to the yellow pigments in the ink? It is only the yellow parts of my tattoo that is "bubbling" or "blistering". Like I mentioned earlier, the skin around it is getting red and it is rather sore to the touch.

Intenze is just a brand name. One I have never used, nor likely will, so i can't comment on it much. All people heal a bit different, and the soreness and redness around it isn't really uncommon. A tattoo is similar to a brush burn. As it heals, the skin sometimes tightens, and has a red "aura" around the tattoo. The bubbling is the weird part. It could be a reaction to the antibiotic ointment, or it could be something else.
My advise is that if it gets any worse, or if it doesn't steadily show improvement after 7-10 days (from the time you got it) talk to your doc to make sure it isn't an infection. If it does seem to get better, and it was a reaction to something, you may need it touched up after it is COMPLETELY healed.

I'm not sure if your tattoo was done with INtenze pigments or not Tamed FireStorm, I was just stating that I have seen that with that brand. When I judge at conventions I ask every contestant who did their work and then I talk to the artists to see what kind of pigments they use. This way I can buy myself what I think are the best pigments for each color. What I have found is that Intenze pigments tend to appear bubbly or show a blistering effect. How is your tattoo now? Can you find out what brand your artist used and let us know....just curious?

The blistering has finally went down. It seems to be healing more and more each day. The pink and purple are completely healed and look GREAT. The yellow parts still have scabs on them. I don't know if it was an allergic reaction to the yellow pigment or the Neosporin; however, I feel like it was one of the two. I did try to contact the tattoo studio, just to see what kind of ink they used, but found out that they don't have a phone. That sounded a little odd to me. I could see if they had just gotten started at opening the buisness, but they had been at this location for atleast 6 months.
~~Anyway, guys...thanks for all the info and advice. I appreciate it.
