I'm sorry but I don't buy the whole "this is a good show because it opens people's eyes to misconceptions about tattoos" because the popularity in tattoos as a mainstream accepted practice have been on on the rise long before Miami Ink. For every non-educated person who decides to rely on tattoo stereotypes that was brought to light by any of these tattoo reality shows, there are a few more thinking that what they do is easy for their lifestyle and they could give it a shot themselves.

The show doesn't address issues to educate the public; it would be great if they talked about their spore tests and the importance of keeping a sterile environment--but these assholes were on Oahu tattooing local boys in their fucking house. Not a very sterile environment there. It silently says it is ok for people to do that if "professionals" are doing it. And I don't care if people think that it isn't Miami Ink's responsibility to talk about those things; they know they're being watched by people who might be unfamiliar with the art and they should want to show people what "scratching" is and why IT is the only thing wrong with tattooing nowadays.

Tattoo artists have been making a living for over 7,000 years WITHOUT the help of any of these flash in the pan 5 year (or less) veterans and "embassadors of tattoodom".
There are times that it is looked down upon, and times it is held to royal standards...and that cycle, my friends, cleans out the RUBBISH.
No one needed tattoos to be "de-mystified" or "validated". If you need tattooing to be a socially acceptable practice, then you have little or no understanding of the art form, which has to do with INDIVIDUALITY, and ~NOT~ HOMOGENIZATION. It is about NOT CARING what is socially acceptable to anyone aside from your personal tribe...which in my case is about 10 people.
This art form needs these pathetic hacks like it needs a bag on it's hip.
